{"id":84605,"date":"2020-02-19T12:55:54","date_gmt":"2020-02-19T18:55:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=84605"},"modified":"2020-02-19T12:56:02","modified_gmt":"2020-02-19T18:56:02","slug":"city-of-oxford-mississippi-enacts-vaping-ban-for-minors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/city-of-oxford-mississippi-enacts-vaping-ban-for-minors\/","title":{"rendered":"City of Oxford, Mississippi Enacts Vaping Ban for Minors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Code of Ordinances, 50-94 Restrictions on Electronic Smoking Devices and electronic smoking pod(s), cartridge(s), and liquid refill(s)<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At their last two meetings, Mayor <strong>Robyn Tannehill<\/strong> and <strong>City of Oxford Board of Aldermen<\/strong> were presented with an ordinance aimed at protecting the youth of <strong>Oxford<\/strong>, <strong>Mississippi<\/strong>. Last night, the Board of Alderman voted to pass the ordinance and make the same effective immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new ordinance adds restrictions on selling and possessing electronic smoking devices and cartridges to anyone under the age of 21 and possession on school grounds. Anyone under 21 caught with an electronic smoking device or cartridge could face up to a $100 fine for a 3<sup>rd<\/sup>&nbsp;offense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of the ordinance, however, is to combat the selling of devices and\/or cartridges to children under the age of 18. The <strong>Oxford Police Department<\/strong> will not tolerate these items being sold to high school and junior high students.
