Guests for the first show will include debut short story author,<strong> Ashley Wurzbacher<\/strong>, pop-rockers, <strong>Short in the Sleeve,<\/strong> and Memphis soul-funk duo, <strong>The PRLVG<\/strong>. Hosts of the show are <strong>Jim Dees<\/strong> and house band, <strong>The Yalobushwhackers<\/strong>. Admission is free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.squarebooks.com\/sites\/squarebooks.com\/files\/wurzbacher%20.png?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The show can be heard live on <strong>WUMS<\/strong> (92.1 FM in Oxford) and online: <a href=\"https:\/\/myrebelradio.com\/\">https:\/\/myrebelradi<\/a><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"o (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/myrebelradio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">o<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/myrebelradio.com\/\">.com\/<\/a>. It will be broadcast on Mississippi and Alabama public radio stations next Saturday, February 1 at 7 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thacker\u2019s season premiere is part of this year\u2019s <strong>Pop Up Oxford<\/strong>, a week-long series of lectures, programs, and events sponsored by local tourist organization, Visit Oxford. More information: <a href=\"https:\/\/visitoxfordms.com\/pop-up-oxford\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">https:\/\/visitoxfordms.com\/pop-up-oxford\/<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thursday\u2019s broadcast will kick off 13 shows to be presented in Oxford over the spring culminating in an outdoor show on the Square on Friday night of the <strong>Double Decker Festival<\/strong> on April 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other highlights of the new season include bestselling crime novelist <strong>Don Winslow<\/strong> (April 9); popular southern essayist, <strong>Sean Dietrich<\/strong> (March 3); the <strong>Oxford Film Festival<\/strong> show at the F<strong>ord Center<\/strong> with author <strong>Donna Rifkind<\/strong> (March 19); the <strong>Oxford Conference for the Book<\/strong> show with local faves <strong>And the Echo<\/strong> (April 2); and a \u201cbig brass blowout\u201d with <strong>The Mighty Souls Brass Band<\/strong> at <strong>The Lyric<\/strong> (April 16).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour<\/em> capped off its 2019 season with its annual Holiday Membership party on December 5. Thacker producer <strong>Alice Pierotti<\/strong> says the holiday party, which includes a popular silent auction to raise production funds, was a great success and provided momentum for 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe offer our sincere thanks to everyone who donated such cool items to our auction and to everyone who bid on those items,\u201d Pierotti said. \u201cIt was our most successful auction yet and has really laid the groundwork for our new season.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As usual, the spring season will offer Thacker\u2019s unique mix of authors and musicians spanning a wide array of genres and subject matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thursday\u2019s author, Ashley Wurzbacher, was recently honored by the <strong>National Book Foundation <\/strong>as one of \u201c5 Under 35\u201d authors to watch. Her debut story collection,<strong> <em>Happy Like This<\/em><\/strong>, spans a wide range of distinct perspectives, voices, and styles, including characters who are social scientists, linguists, speech therapists, plant physiologists, and dancers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both of Thursday\u2019s musical guests hail from Memphis, veteran pop-rockers Short in the Sleeve and newcomer funk duo, THE PRVLG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour<\/em> can be heard every Thursday at 6 pm on WUMS (on air and online) and every Saturday at 7 pm on <strong>Mississippi Public Broadcasting<\/strong> and at 9 pm Saturdays on <strong>Alabama Public Radio<\/strong>, both on air and online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More information on the spring season is available at <a href=\"http:\/\/thackermountain.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">http:\/\/thackermountain.com\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thacker Jr.<\/strong>, a children\u2019s version of the show featuring an all-student cast, will be performed on Saturday, January 25 at 6 pm at <strong>Nutt Auditorium<\/strong>.
