Each year for the past eleven years, we\u2019ve been asking our readers to tell us their favorite local stuff\u2014people, businesses, food, art, and everything that makes this little town so great. Every year comes with new surprises, and each winner has earned their spot on the Townies list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Categories have come and gone over years, but five popular ones have held steady with readers. Ajax<\/strong> and Big Bad Breakfast<\/strong> keep their streaks going as Oxford\u2019s Favorite Soul Food<\/strong> and Breakfast<\/strong>\u2014kudos to the teams there because they work hard to keep everyone\u2019s belly full day after day. Double Decker Arts Festival<\/strong> once again takes the Townie for Favorite Local Event<\/strong>. Bittersweet is the category for Favorite Townie<\/strong>, as this year we bid a sad farewell to Oxford\u2019s beloved Ronzo Shapiro<\/strong>. Many readers have suggested that we honor him by naming the Favorite Townie award \u201cThe Ronzo,\u201d or that we should retire the category and name him Favorite Townie in perpetuity. Finally, Oxford\u2019s Favorite Pianist\/Keyboardist<\/strong> gave us a little surprise this year: Bill Perry, Jr.<\/strong> holds strong for the 11th year, but for the first time ever, the category has a tie<\/em> for first place. A couple of other notable Townies are those who have won 10\nout of 11 years: Bottletree Bakery<\/strong> (Favorite Bakery<\/strong>), Blind Pig<\/strong> (Favorite Sandwich<\/strong>),\nand Star Package<\/strong> (Favorite Liquor Store<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volta Taverna<\/strong> is\nthis year\u2019s big winner with a whopping SEVEN Townies, including being voted Oxford\u2019s Favorite Restaurant<\/strong>, one of\nthe most contested categories (and it was a close one!). Saint Leo<\/strong> and Blind Pig also stand out with three Townies each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you ask me, there aren\u2019t enough women represented here. Still, some impressive ladies won big categories this year, including Oxford\u2019s Favorite Chef<\/strong>, Erika Lipe<\/strong> at Sola<\/strong>, and Brooke Krizbai <\/strong>of Volta and Track 61<\/strong> taking the most votes for Oxford\u2019s Favorite Boss. Morgan Pennington <\/strong>has a five-year streak as Oxford\u2019s Favorite Barista<\/strong>, Shea Turner Foxx<\/strong> returns as Oxford\u2019s Favorite Realtor<\/strong>, Kate Teague<\/strong> brings some female power to the Favorite Vocalist<\/strong> category, and Beth Ann Fennelly <\/strong>claims her spot as Oxford\u2019s Favorite Writer<\/strong>. Way to go, ladies!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As usual, there\u2019s always next year if your favorite didn\u2019t win. But let\u2019s all congratulate the well-deserved winners of this year\u2019s Local Favorites Awards! Here\u2019s to another year of excellence!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
