The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour<\/strong> has announced its 2019\u20132020 winter broadcast schedule as well as details for its upcoming holiday-membership party. The party will be held Friday, December 6 from 6-\u20139 pm at Southside Art Gallery<\/strong> at 150 Van Buren Avenue. The event will feature live music by Thacker\u2019s house band, the Yalobushwhacker Holiday Band<\/strong> with special guest, Alphonso Sanders<\/strong>. Food and drink will be provided by local caterers, Party Waitin\u2019 To Happen<\/strong>, The Main Event<\/strong>, Cathead Vodka<\/strong>, and The Growler<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The party is free to current members. Memberships (new or renewed) are available at the door for $50 (single), $75 for couples, and $20 for students. Memberships are good for one year. This year\u2019s auction items include the popular \u201cOxford Town Progressive Dinner,\u201d a dinner for six with each course provided at the home of a different Oxonian. Other unique items include a forage for chanterelle mushrooms and dinner at TriBecca Allie Cafe<\/strong> in Sardis; a bourbon tasting and digging for records at The End of All Music<\/strong>; and a two-night stay with fly-fishing lessons on Splinter Creek,<\/strong> located south of Oxford. Also available is a premium package including cooking lessons from Home Place Pastures<\/strong> outside of Como, Mississippi; mixology lessons at Saint Leo<\/strong>; Double Decker<\/strong> VIP passes and a Mardi Gras<\/strong> weekend in Ocean Springs<\/strong>, Mississippi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Artwork from area artists and those with ties to the region include Dick Waterman<\/strong>, Glennray Tutor<\/strong>, Bill Dunlap<\/strong>, David Rae Morris<\/strong>, and Bruce Newman<\/strong>. A series of watercolors of Thacker authors, musicians, and crew, painted in \u201creal time\u201d during the live performances of the show by Gay Graeber-Stubbs<\/strong>, will be of special interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show has also posted its broadcast schedule for December and January 2020, culled from recent live shows. Authors to be featured include Pulitzer Prize-winning southern sage, Rick Bragg<\/strong>, 2019 National Book Award winner, Sarah M. Broom<\/strong>, bestselling British travel writer (turned Mississippian) Richard Grant<\/strong>, Sex and the City<\/em> author Candace Bushnell<\/strong>, and Thurber Prize-winning humorist Harrison Scott Key<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Musical guests will include soul legend Dorothy Moore<\/strong>, pop-soul firebrand Maggie Rose<\/strong>, fiddle groover Amanda Shaw<\/strong>, Thacker co-founder, TB Ledford & The Accumulators<\/strong>, southern rockers Will Kimbrough<\/strong>, Charlie Mars<\/strong>, Eden Brent<\/strong>, and many more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour is broadcast live every Thursday in spring and fall on WUMS (92.1 FM) from Off Square Books<\/strong>. It can be heard year-round every Saturday at 7 pm on Mississippi Public Broadcasting<\/strong> (90.3 FM in Oxford) and online at http:\/\/www.mpbonline.org\/programs\/radio\/listen-live\/<\/a>.
