After a summer of out-of-town dates, The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour<\/em> opens its fall season at its Oxford, Mississippi<\/strong> home, Off Square Books<\/strong>, on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at 6 pm. Admission is free. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Off Square Books is located at 129 Courthouse Square.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarah M. Broom<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Guests will include New Orleans<\/strong> author Sarah M. Broom<\/strong> (The Yellow House<\/em>) Oxford singer-songwriter Charlie Mars<\/strong> (The Money<\/em>) and Americana rockers, Folk Family Revival<\/strong> (Electric Darlin\u2019<\/em>). Hosts of the show are Jim Dees and house band, the Yalobushwhackers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0The show will be broadcast live on air and online Thursday by WUMS 92.1 FM<\/strong> locally and online at: http:\/\/myrebelradio.com\/<\/a>. The show will be broadcast statewide on Saturday, September 14 at 7 pm on Mississippi Public Broadcasting<\/strong> (90.3 FM<\/strong> in Oxford).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0Sara M. Broom\u2019sunflinching memoir, The Yellow House<\/em> (Grove Press<\/strong>), recounts her family\u2019s dramatic relationship with their shotgun home, over years of upheaval \u2013 and hurricanes \u2013 in a neglected part of New Orleans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Magnolia residents Caleb Pace (left), Mason Lankford, Barrett Lankford and Lincoln Lankford make up Folk Family Revival, who will be playing this year\u2019s South by Southwest festival.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Folk Family Revival are the Lankford <\/strong>family, Mason, Barrett<\/strong>, and Lincoln<\/strong>, with their friend, lead guitarist Caleb Pace<\/strong>, all from Houston, Texas<\/strong>. Despite their name, the band produces a genre-busting sound that takes in rock, country, and blues. Charlie Mars has been a journeyman songwriting troubadour for 20 years, mostly based out of Oxford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thacker host Jim Dees<\/strong> says the show is happy to be home. \u201cIt\u2019s important to travel around and visit listeners in various parts of the state,\u201d he said. \u201cBut there\u2019s nothing like the feeling of being on your home turf with familiar faces. Plus, we\u2019ve got a great season in store.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlights of the fall season (all shows are free admission) include two shows at The Lyric Theatre<\/strong>: Nationally acclaimed country singer Maggie Rose<\/strong> with young adult novelist Morgan Parker<\/strong> on October 17; William Kent Krueger<\/strong> and his adventure novel, This Tender Land<\/em>, about four children who escape their abusers on a daring canoe trip down the Minnesota River<\/strong>, with fiddle-powered grooves from Alice Hasen & The Blaze<\/strong> on September 12. Veteran Memphis <\/strong>guitarist Joe Restivo<\/strong> appears at Off Square Books on September 19 with up-and-coming horror writer Shaun Hamill<\/strong> (Cosmology of Monsters<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oxford favorite George McConnell<\/strong> is the musical guest on September 26; folk-singer Claire Holley<\/strong> on October 3; alt-Latino rockers Chocala <\/strong>for our Sarahfest <\/strong>show on October 10 and a special civil rights commemorative show with New Orleans-native novelist Margaret Wilkerson Sexton<\/strong> (The Revisioners<\/em>) with music by R&B veterans, The Scavengers<\/strong> on November 10. New Orleans soul-jazz powerhouse Lilli Lewis<\/strong> appears on October 24. Plus, there will be trick and treats for Halloween<\/strong> with 18-string Imrat guitarist Todd Mosby<\/strong> (must be seen \u2013 and heard- to be believed) on October 31. The show will hold its annual Holiday-Membership party on Friday, December 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
