Call for\nEntries opened May 1, 2019 for the 2020 Oxford\nFilm Festival (OFF)<\/strong>, which has moved its date to March 18\u201322, 2020. The\n17th edition of the popular regional film festival again features OFF\u2019s\nscreenplay competition with cash prizes, as well as a reduced submission fee\nincentive for female filmmakers and people with disabilities. All juried\ncompetition winners will receive cash prizes along with their awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Executive Director Melanie Addington<\/strong> said, \u201cThe move to March was\ninspired by a desire to give us a little more breathing room following the\nAcademy Awards broadcast and the conclusion of the Sundance Film Festival,\nopening up more potential for select films to play those fests as well as Oxford\nFF.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Led by\nAddington, OFF will screen films in all genres, and focusing on \u201cdiscoveries\u201d\nthrough its film selections via submissions, as well as celebrating short\nscreenplay writers and promoting and celebrating Mississippi filmmakers culminating\nin the presentation of the film festival\u2019s award ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the\nforefront of film festivals offering concrete policies and actions on behalf of\nfilms created by people with disabilities, and\/or featuring performers with disabilities\u2014those\nfilmmakers can receive a 50 percent submission fee discount using code\nReelOXFF2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addington\nhas also re-confirmed her pledge that OFF will keep the efforts going as long\nas it takes to get to 50-50 female to male representation. When submitting\ntheir films to Film Freeway for consideration by the festival, women should use\nthe following submission code to receive their 50 percent discount: BlacheOXFF.\nThe festival also joined the Parity Pledge to get to 50-50 by 2020 joining\nfestivals such as Cannes, Berlin, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Festivals\nthat sign the pledge through WomeninHollywood.com will compile statistics of\ngender and race of the directors of all the films submitted to selection, and\nwhen applicable, will also compile all members of the cast and crew mentioned\nin the registration process of the film and make public the gender and race of\nall the members of selection committees, programmers, programming consultants,\nand the gender and race of executive boards, and\/or boards of directors. All of\nthis is done with an aim toward committing to a schedule to achieve parity in\neach of these bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the\ngrowth of the LGBTQIA+ category, in addition to the continuation of the discounted\nsubmission fees for female filmmakers demonstrates the real, tangible support\nfor artists of all genders, lifestyles, and cultures that the Oxford Film\nFestival represents in the South. The film festival has made a name for itself nationally\nin that regard for the impact it is making with filmmakers, film artists, and\nthe local community, by embracing its place artistically, politically, and socially\nin Oxford and the state of Mississippi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Oxford Film\nFestival has established itself as a leader and prominent \u201cvoice\u201d in the\nregional film festival community as it continues to take real and lasting action\nin order to offer an oasis of culture, a position of advocacy and support on behalf\nof minorities, women, and the LGBTQ community, as it supports diverse voices in\nthe state of Mississippi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While\nsubmissions are now open, the festival will also be launching its first female\nfilmmaker retreat leading up to the festival this fall for March 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The top 10\nfilms will be selected to play the 2020 Oxford Film Festival. The top 10 will\nreceive a hotel for three nights during the festival. A grand prize of $15,000 will\nbe given to the winner which will be determined 50 percent by judges and 50\npercent by audience participation at the screening at the 2020 festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rules of the\ncompetition include: The film must be less than 30 minutes. Any genre is\nallowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The top 10\nfilms will need to incorporate \u201cIn Association with Artist Vodka\u201d in the credits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Short Screenplay Competition<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Short\nScreenplay Competition will feature the following prizes for the winning writer\/filmmaker:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • A\n$1,000 prize for use in making the film from the winning script<\/li>
  • OxFilm\nSociety equipment rental for free for use in the production of the film if shot\nin Lafayette County as well as production support from OxFilm Society.<\/li>
  • Flight\n(if not local) and hotel accommodations to attend the Oxford Film Festival to\nhear the live table read of their script<\/li>
  • Producer\nmentor including John Norris of Wyolah Films (Get On Up, The Help, Ma<\/em>) will also meet with the scriptwriter at\nthe festival to consult on production details to assist in the making of the\nfilm.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
