The event is always free and open to the public with events taking place on campus, the <strong>Lafayette County Courthouse<\/strong>, <strong>Square Books,<\/strong> and other venues around town. Visit www.oxfordconferenceforthebook.com for a complete schedule and more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"935\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/poster.jpg?resize=640%2C935\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-73833\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Kicking\noff the conference is Wednesday\u2019s luncheon program, which takes place at the <strong>J. D. Williams Library<\/strong> on the\nUniversity campus. Three program sessions on Wednesday afternoon take place at\nthe <strong>Overby Center for Southern\nJournalism and Politics<\/strong>, located on the University campus. The day\u2019s final\nreading by <strong>Leanne Shapton<\/strong> takes\nplace at <strong>Off Square Books <\/strong>at 5 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thursday\u2019s\nsessions take place at the Overby Center. <strong><em>Thacker\nMountain Radio<\/em><\/strong> will be held at the <strong>Lyric\nTheatre<\/strong>, and the screening of <em>La Frontera <\/em>and reading from <em>Border\nWalk <\/em>will be held at the <strong>Powerhouse<\/strong>.\nThacker Mountain Radio will feature author <strong>Ken\nWells<\/strong> with his culinary memoir, <strong><em>Gumbo Life<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Friday\u2019s\nsessions take place at the Lafayette County Courthouse with a reading by <strong>Salvator Scibona<\/strong>, as well as at the <strong>Lafayette County and Oxford Public Library<\/strong>,\nOff Square Books, and an in-store performance by <strong>Willy Vlautin<\/strong> and <strong>Justin\nPeter Kinkel-Schuster<\/strong> at <strong>The End of\nAll Music<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n2019 Oxford Conference for the Book <strong>Children\u2019s\nBook Festival<\/strong> (CBF) will be held on Friday, March 29, at the <strong>Ford Center for Performing Arts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nfirst-grade author will be <strong>Dan Santat<\/strong>,\nfor his book <strong><em>After the\nFall<\/em><\/strong>. The fifth-grade author is <strong>Sharon Draper<\/strong>, for <strong><em>Out of My Mind<\/em><\/strong>. Area first graders will visit with\nthe author at the Ford Center at 9 am, and fifth graders will visit with their\nauthor at 10:30 am. There will be a book signing by the authors that afternoon\nfrom 3\u20134 pm at <strong>Square Books, Jr<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ngoal of the Children\u2019s Book Festival is to give each child a book of his or her\nown, which they will read along with classmates and their teacher during the\nschool year. The Children\u2019s Book Festival serves more than 1,200 area\nfirst-graders and fifth-graders from schools in <strong>Lafayette County<\/strong> and <strong>Oxford<\/strong>.\nCommittees made up of local school librarians, teachers, and representatives\nfrom the <strong>Lafayette County Literacy\nCouncil<\/strong> (sponsor of the first grade), <strong>Junior\nAuxiliary<\/strong> (sponsor of the fifth grade), and Square Books, Jr. choose the\nbook each year.
