And so shall we! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This poet, artist, founder of <strong>City Lights<\/strong> and central figure among the Beats, orphan and D-Day veteran, whose <em>Coney Island of the Mind<\/em> has sold over a million copies, has written a little novel to be published just days before his birthday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Little Boy<\/em> is just the news: autobiographical, with almost no punctuation and very few paragraph breaks, yet flows easily and is full of beauty, elegance and profundity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Join Square Books for a reading of <em>Little Boy<\/em> on <strong>Sunday, March 24 at 1:30 pm<\/strong>, upstairs in the main store, when Mississippi Poet Laureate <strong>Beth Ann Fennelly<\/strong> will be the first reader. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cake &amp; coffee. The &#8220;Little Boy&#8221; of the title is Ferlinghetti himself as a child, shuffled from his overburdened mother to his French aunt to foster childhood with a rich Bronxville family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Service in World War Two (including the D-Day landing), graduate work, and a scholar gypsy&#8217;s vagabond life in Paris followed. These biographical reminiscences are interweaved with Allen Ginsberg-esque high energy bursts of raw emotion, rumination, reflection, reminiscence and prognostication on what we may face as a species on Planet Earth in the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Little Boy\u00a0<\/em>is a magical font of literary lore with allusions galore, a final repository of hard-earned and durable wisdom, a compositional high wire act without a net (or all that much punctuation) and just a gas and an inspiration to read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the Author<\/strong><br>Lawrence Ferlinghetti I was born in Yonkers, New York in 1919. Founder of the famed City Lights Booksellers and Publishers, he is an activist, painter, and author of numerous works of poetry, prose, and drama. His\u00a0<em>A Coney Island of the Mind<\/em>\u00a0is one of the bestselling poetry books of all time. Among his many honors are the\u00a0<em>Los Angeles Times<\/em>&#8216; Robert Kirsch Award, the NBCC&#8217;s Ivan Sandrof Award, and the ACLU&#8217;s Earl Warren Civil Liberties Award. He is also a Commander of the French Order of Arts and Letters.
