Admission is free. Off Square Books is located at 129 Courthouse Square. The show can be heard live on WUMS, 92.1 FM or online at <a href=\"http:\/\/myrebelradio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"http:\/\/myrebelradio.com\/ (opens in a new tab)\">http:\/\/myrebelradio.com\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"359\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Garth-Greenwell.jpg?resize=640%2C359\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-66961\"\/><figcaption>Debut novelist Garth Greenwell will be the first author guest of the season on Thursday, January 24. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p> Thursday\u2019s broadcast will kick off 13 shows to be presented in Oxford culminating in an outdoor show on the Square on Friday night of the <strong>Double Decker Festival<\/strong> on April 26. Out-of-town shows will include a March 2 performance at <strong>Delta State University<\/strong> in <strong>Cleveland<\/strong>, Mississippi and an April 12 date at the <strong>Juke Joint Festival<\/strong> in <strong>Clarksdale<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Thacker Mountain Radio has been on a two-month hiatus since it wrapped up its 2018 schedule in late November capped off by its annual Holiday Membership party on Dec. 7. Thacker producer <strong>Kate Teague<\/strong> says the holiday party\u2014which includes a popular silent auction to raise production funds\u2014was a great success and provided momentum for 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe offer our sincere thanks to everyone who donated such cool items to our auction and to everyone who bid on those items,\u201d Teague said. \u201cIt was our most successful auction yet and has really laid the groundwork for 2019.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> As usual, the spring season will offer Thacker\u2019s unique mix of authors and musicians spanning a wide array of genres and subject matter. Thursday\u2019s author, Garth Greenwell and his book, <strong><em>What Belongs To You<\/em><\/strong>, have made quite a splash since its release. The book, A New York Times Book Review Editors\u2019 Choice, has recently been released in paperback and was named a \u201cBest Book of the Year\u201d by over 50 publications in nine countries, and is being translated into a dozen languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thacker host <strong>Jim Dees<\/strong> says Thursday\u2019s season premiere is a perfect example of the type of show Thacker producers strive to present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGarth Greenwell may not be a household name but he probably will be in a couple of years,\u201d Dees said. \u201cHaving him on Thacker gives us all a chance to hear a young writer on the launching pad of what looks to be a long and solid career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut,\u201d Dees added, \u201cas great as he is, I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll never again appear on a bill with Watermelon Slim. I think that\u2019s the beauty of our show.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"405\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/The-Soultones.jpg?resize=405%2C540\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-66962\"\/><figcaption>Oxford band The Soultones will appear on the Oxford Conference of the Book edition of Thacker Mountain Radio on March 28. <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Other highlights of the new season: Satirist <strong>Sam Lipstye<\/strong> (<strong><em>Hark<\/em><\/strong>) with Hill Country fife master <strong>Sharde Thomas<\/strong> at the <strong>Ford Center<\/strong> to kick off the <strong>Oxford Film Festival<\/strong> (February 7); <strong>Deborah and James Fallows<\/strong> with their book, <strong><em>Our Towns<\/em><\/strong>, which chronicles their five years barnstorming America in a single engine prop plane (February 21); spoken word artist <strong>Minton Sparks<\/strong> (March 21) and local band <strong>The Soultones<\/strong> at <strong>The Lyric<\/strong> to kick off the <strong>Oxford Conference for the Book<\/strong> (March 28).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to its local broadcast, the show is now heard every Saturday night at 9 pm on <strong>Alabama Public Radio<\/strong> as well as its long-standing slot on <strong>Mississippi Public Broadcasting<\/strong> (90.3 FM) Saturday nights at 7 pm.
