Starting at 10 am at the <strong>Burns Belfry Church<\/strong> (710 Jackson Avenue), the series of short films provided for free to the community will include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Bright at Night<\/em><\/strong> -The <strong>Hollowell family<\/strong> has been in Mississippi\u2019s <strong>Hill Country<\/strong> for 100 years. The Sunday evening experience at <strong>Foxfire<\/strong> serves up a slice of life in <strong>Marshall County<\/strong>, Mississippi, where\nculinary and musical traditions have always been closely interwoven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Counter Histories Jackson<\/em><\/strong> -In this piece we hear from <strong>Colia Clark<\/strong>, <strong>Joan Trumpauer Mulholland<\/strong>, <strong>Bill Minor<\/strong>, <strong>Daphne Chamberlain<\/strong>, and <strong>Reverend Ed King<\/strong> about the historic sit-in at the 1963 Woolworth\u2019s lunch counter in <strong>Jackson<\/strong>, Mississippi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"439\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/sfa_counter_video.0web.jpg?resize=640%2C439\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-64002\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Country Platter<\/em><\/strong> &#8211;<strong>Jimmy Williams<\/strong> has been the owner of <strong>Country Platter<\/strong> in <strong>Cleveland<\/strong>,\nMississippi since 1994. In its history, Country Platter was previously <strong>Lilley\u2019s Soul Food Cafe<\/strong>, a meeting\nplace during the Civil Rights Movement for many influential figures including\nDr. Martin Lather King Jr., <strong>Ralph\nAbernathy<\/strong>, and <strong>Amzie Moore<\/strong>.\nToday, Williams works to give back to his community, remembering his past to\ninfluence his present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Delta Dreams<\/em><\/strong> \u2013A look at the music of the <strong>Delta<\/strong> and the new GRAMMY Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Faith, Hope, &amp;\nInspiration<\/em><\/strong> -Members\nof the <strong>Clarksdale<\/strong>, Mississippi\ncommunity reflect on the influence of Dr. Martin Luther King\u2019s visit to First\nBaptist Church during their civil rights struggles in the 1950s and 60s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Otha Turner<\/em><\/strong> -In the late 1950s, fife and drum\nlegend <strong>Otha Turner<\/strong> began hosting\nannual Labor Day picnics at his property in <strong>Gravel Springs<\/strong>, Mississippi. Turner would butcher and roast goat,\npork, and fish, drawing neighbors with the smell of his cooking and the sounds\nof his fife and drum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Signs<\/em><\/strong> -A short documentary examines the ongoing vandalism of signs marking <strong>Emmett Till<\/strong>\u2019s brutal murder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/emmett-till-web.jpg?resize=640%2C427\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-64003\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Vishwesh Bhatt: The\nSouth I Love<\/em><\/strong> &#8211;<strong>Vishwesh Bhatt<\/strong> is a Southern chef using\nflavors from his childhood to add to the lexicon of Southern Food. A short film\nby SFA summer documentary intern <strong>Nicole\nDu Bois.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A\nfull-length trailer of the upcoming Oxford Film Festival will also be played.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Je\u2019Monda Roy<\/strong>, <strong>University of Mississippi<\/strong> MFA student, will serve as Q&amp;A\nfacilitator with special guests including filmmakers and subjects of the films.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Oxford\nFilm Festival was founded in 2003 to bring exciting, new and unusual films (and\nthe people who create them) to North Mississippi. The annual five-day festival screens\nshort and feature-length films in both showcase and competition settings,\nincluding narrative and documentary features and shorts; Mississippi\nnarratives, documentaries and music videos, and narrative, documentary,\nanimated and experimental shorts.
