Southside Gallery to open 2013
\nwith Drawing Exhibit<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Oxford, Miss. (SSG) <\/b>\u2013 Southside Gallery<\/strong> on the Square in Oxford, Mississippi, will display drawings by local and regional artists from January 15 \u2013 February 23<\/strong>.\u00a0 The Drawing Exhibit will focus on a variety of media and styles.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cWe had a drawing exhibit last year that was popular so we chose to have one again this year,\u201d said Southside\u2019s Wil Cook<\/strong>.\u00a0 Most of the artists who participated in last year\u2019s exhibit will also be included in this year\u2019s, along with some new artists.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Many of the artists whose work will be on display have had exhibits at Southside Gallery in the past, but some will be showcasing their drawings for the first time at the gallery.\u00a0 Laurin McCracken<\/strong>, a watercolorist from Leland, Mississippi who has exhibited his watercolors at Southside extensively, will include two ink drawings in the show.\u00a0 McCracken, a retired architect, has received numerous awards and international acclaim for his meticulously detailed watercolors.\u00a0 His drawings are also very impressive. \"2013-01-TouristBoatsZhujaijaio-300\"
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Local painter, Jere Allen<\/strong> will also have work in the exhibit.\u00a0 Allen has exhibited drawings at Southside in the past, but did not have work in last year\u2019s exhibit.\u00a0 Like his paintings, Allen\u2019s drawings are composed with energetic lines, marks and strokes.\u00a0 The drawings are fundamentally strong, showcasing Allen\u2019s eye for contrast and line value.\u00a0 For many of Allen\u2019s fans, this show will offer some insight into how he creates such dramatic compositions on canvas, as the drawings included in this show are equally inspiring.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other artists featuring work in the Drawing Exhibit are William Dunlap, Deborah Freeland, Stan O\u2019Dell, Wendy Olson, Anne Strand, Paula Temple, <\/strong>and Glennray Tutor.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The drawings featured in this exhibit are a stunning example of the many directions the medium can take an artist.\u00a0 Each artist chose drawings that showcase their skills and are indicative of their working style.\u00a0 There is a wonderful assortment of work on exhibit, from representational to abstract and experimental drawings.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe great thing about this exhibit is that it gives collectors an opportunity to see how some of their favorite artists approach their work,\u201d said Cook.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s also a good time for new collectors to buy work that is a more affordable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

An artists\u2019 reception is scheduled for Friday, January 18 from 6:30 \u2013 8:30 pm<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n
