Oxford Civic Chorus\u00a0<\/strong>(OCC) celebrates the holiday season with its winter concert,\u00a0<\/span>the Christmas portion of Handel<\/strong>\u2019s Messiah<\/strong><\/em>. The concert takes place at 3 pm Sunday, December 9 at\u00a0<\/span>David H. Nutt Auditorium<\/strong>, under the direction of W. Thomas Ardrey<\/strong>. Cookies and hot chocolate\u00a0<\/span>will be offered to attendees at the reception following the hour-long performance. OCC board\u00a0<\/span>president Stephanie Young<\/strong> believes in the importance of acknowledging the efforts of the\u00a0<\/span>chorus\u2019s current and previous artistic directors.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is our 20th season, and we want to recognize the many artistic directors that have shaped\u00a0<\/span>OCC,\u201d Young said. \u201cWe\u2019ve invited all the previous artistic directors, and many will be attending,\u00a0<\/span>including Gabriel Statom, our founding director. This concert will be in their honor.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Other former directors include Dr. Martha Hitch<\/strong>, Dr. Robert Aubrey<\/strong>, Philip Walkley<\/strong>, Dr.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>Herbert Jones<\/strong>, Dr. Jerry Jordan<\/strong> and Mrs. Jean Jordan<\/strong>, Brooke Bagley Worthy<\/strong>, and the current\u00a0<\/span>director, Thomas Ardrey.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are deeply grateful for the leadership of such talented men and women,\u201d Young said. \u201cThe\u00a0<\/span>choir has enriched the lives of hundreds of singers and even more patrons over the years, thanks\u00a0<\/span>in part to the extraordinary commitment of these directors.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
