The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour<\/strong> is hosting its annual holiday\/membership party, including\u00a0<\/span>a very unique silent auction, on Friday, December 7 from 6\u20139 pm at Southside Gallery<\/strong> at 150 Van\u00a0<\/span>Buren Avenue. The event will feature live music by Thacker\u2019s house band, The<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>Yalobushwhackers<\/strong>, as well as food and drink by local caterers, Party Waitin\u2019 To Happen<\/strong> and\u00a0<\/span>The Main Event<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The party is free to current members. Memberships (new or renewed) are available at the door\u00a0<\/span>for $50 (single), $75 for couples, and $20 for students. Memberships are good for one year. If you\u00a0<\/span>are unable to attend, you may donate at the show\u2019s website, http:\/\/thackermountain.com\/<\/a>. Bidding on auction items will remain open until 8:30 pm, giving guests ample time to browse\u00a0<\/span>the large collection of mind-boggling events and gifts. The prizes include the \u201cOxford Town\u00a0<\/span>Progressive Dinner,\u201d a dinner for six with each course provided at the home of a different\u00a0<\/span>Oxonian including food journalist John T. Edge<\/strong> and Chef John Currence<\/strong> with transportation\u00a0<\/span>provided by Flying Tuk<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The \u201cWhole Hog Comes to You\u201d is a BBQ dinner with all the trimmings for 100 brought to\u00a0<\/span>your location by Oxford\u2019s Smoke Shop and Cookout\u00a0 Catering<\/strong>. A performance of the play, Oh,\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span>Mr. Faulkner, Do You Write?<\/strong><\/em> performed by playwright\/actor John Maxwell<\/strong> for 20 guests at\u00a0<\/span>Rowan Oak<\/strong>, will be offered for bidding, which also includes food and drinks. Other items\u00a0<\/span>include: two tickets to the Hill Country Boucherie<\/strong> at\u00a0Home Place Pastures <\/strong>next August; an evening of photographs and\u00a0<\/span>stories with acclaimed blues\/rock photographer Dick Waterman<\/strong>; a guided fishing trip on\u00a0<\/span>Pickwick Lake<\/strong>, and a weekend at Ocean Springs Mardi Gras<\/strong> with Ron and Misty Feder<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another item sure to generate interest is a one-of-a-kind \u201cPrivate Thacker\u201d performance for 20\u00a0<\/span>friends. This mini-version of the radio show with feature host Jim Dees<\/strong>, house band, the\u00a0<\/span>Yalobushwhackers and bestselling author, Ace Atkins<\/strong>. Beverages and appetizers will be\u00a0<\/span>provided.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are special VIP packages for bidding from the Lyric Oxford,<\/strong> the Oxford Film Festival<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span>and the Double Decker Arts Festival<\/strong>. Artwork from area artists and those with ties to the region\u00a0<\/span>will be offered including Dick Waterman, Glennray Tutor<\/strong>, Bill Dunlap<\/strong>, Deborah Freeland<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span>Yerger Andre<\/strong>, David Rae Morris<\/strong>, Milly West<\/strong>, Bruce Newman<\/strong>, among others.<\/span><\/p>\n

In other fund-raising news, the show recently announced the establishment of an endowment\u00a0<\/span>fund beginning with a seed donation of $2,500 from the Lafayette Oxford Foundation for\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>Tomorrow (LOFT)<\/strong>. The show will conduct an official endowment campaign beginning in early\u00a0<\/span>2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour, now in its 21st year, is broadcast live every week in\u00a0<\/span>spring and fall on WUMS<\/strong> (92.1 FM) from Off Square Books<\/strong>. It can be heard every Saturday at 7\u00a0<\/span>pm on Mississippi Public Broadcasting<\/strong> (90.3 FM in Oxford) and online at\u00a0<\/span>http:\/\/www.mpbonline.org\/programs\/radio\/listen-live\/<\/a>. The show is also broadcast on Alabama\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>Public Radio<\/strong> every Saturday at 9 pm at https:\/\/www.apr.org\/#stream\/0<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
