{"id":50310,"date":"2018-12-04T11:04:23","date_gmt":"2018-12-04T17:04:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=50310"},"modified":"2018-12-04T11:06:20","modified_gmt":"2018-12-04T17:06:20","slug":"city-of-oxford-and-the-new-local-animal-shelter-mississippi-critterz-seek-to-raise-awareness-of-new-laws-and-drop-off-policies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/city-of-oxford-and-the-new-local-animal-shelter-mississippi-critterz-seek-to-raise-awareness-of-new-laws-and-drop-off-policies\/","title":{"rendered":"City of Oxford and the New Local Animal Shelter Mississippi Critterz Seek to Raise Awareness of New Laws and Drop Off Policies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The <strong>Oxford Police Department<\/strong> and <strong>Mississippi Critterz<\/strong> are partnering to raise\u00a0awareness about a new ordinance in Oxford. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">On October 2, 2018, the Mayor and Board of\u00a0Alderman amended City Code 18-46 which states: 1) Any animal seized in accordance with\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">this article may be impounded in the city animal shelter. It shall be unlawful for any person to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">break open or in any manner directly or indirectly aid, counsel, or advise the breaking open of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">any animal shelter, or any vehicle used for the purpose of collecting or conveying animals to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">the shelter. 2) It shall be unlawful for any person, except for law enforcement or animal control\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">officers, to drop-off any animals at the city animal shelter or shelter grounds when the shelter is\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">not open to receive animals. Animals shall not be left unattended in the city dog park.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Mississippi Critterz intake\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">procedures differ from previous years. They only serve the Oxford\/Lafayette County\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">community and WILL REQUIRE proof of being an Oxford\/Lafayette County resident or Ole Miss\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">student. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Before an intake of an animal can be completed, individuals will be required to show\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">proof of residence by providing a Driver&#8217;s License, utility bill, or rent\/lease contract for\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">verification. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Residents outside of Oxford and Lafayette County should contact rescues\/shelters\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">within your local community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The Mississippi Critterz facility has been updated with technology to help locate individuals\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">that leave animals unattended. Any individuals caught leaving an animal at the facility will be\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">charged. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Mississippi Critterz is open Tuesday through Friday 12-6 pm and Saturday from\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">11-6 pm.
