Since 2006, Otherfest<\/strong> has held the stage for over 100 indie-label and unsigned\u00a0<\/span>bands from around the U.S. ranging in genres from blues to blue grass, from hip-hop to rock,\u00a0<\/span>and every sub-genre in between. This year, on October 5th and 6th, Otherfest grows into its\u00a0<\/span>teenage years with big plans and big headliners. <\/span><\/p>\n

The 13th annual Otherfest, sponsored by Keep\u00a0<\/strong>Cleveland Boring<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0and Budweiser<\/strong>, will feature 16 music acts over two days for only $25. In\u00a0<\/span>addition to live original music, the festival boasts two days of free camping, food trucks, and art\u00a0<\/span>and beverage vending in a two day, all ages music festival on October 5th and 6th, just north of<\/span>
\nCleveland, Mississippi<\/strong>, on Highway 61<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Originally a one day festival, Otherfest grew to a two day festival in 2017: \u201cAfter such great\u00a0<\/span>success last year with having the festival over a two full days instead of cramming everything\u00a0<\/span>into one single day, we decided two things: The first, two days of music is way better than one\u00a0<\/span>day of music. The second, with all of Cleveland on a music high with the recent addition of the\u00a0<\/span>Grammy Museum and the obvious increase in interest of Cleveland locals, it\u2019s time for bigger\u00a0<\/span>named acts that everyone can enjoy while still staying true to our indie roots,\u201d said festival\u00a0<\/span>organizer William \u201cWeejy\u201d Rogers<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

This years line up includes headliners, Futurebirds<\/strong>, whose \u201cmusic is a patchwork\u00a0<\/span>amalgam of influences, including: twangy Southern rock (they’ve opened for the Drive-<\/strong><\/span>By Truckers<\/strong>), reverb-soaked psychedelia reminiscent of early My Morning Jacket<\/strong> or\u00a0<\/span>fellow Athens residents Phosphorescent<\/strong>, soaring guitar solos \u00e0 la Neil Young & Crazy\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>Horse<\/strong>, rhythmic jangle from that other Athens band, REM<\/strong>, multi-part vocal harmonies,\u00a0<\/span>and, weaving through it all, lyrical slide guitar.\u201d -vox.com.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another notable act is\u00a0<\/span>Cleveland DMI product, Schaefer Llana<\/strong>, who comes off the heels of her recently\u00a0<\/span>released full length, 49 Ceiling Tiles<\/strong><\/em>, which has received rave reviews nation wide.\u00a0<\/span>Many other acts from Mississippi include And The Echo<\/strong>, a two-piece synth pop band out\u00a0<\/span>of Oxford; Blackwater Trio<\/strong>, a three-piece gone full band with screaming violin and a\u00a0<\/span>whirlwind of vocal harmonies; A Scarlet Empire<\/strong>, whose 2010 Otherfest performance\u00a0<\/span>literally caused a plague of crickets and brought on strong, unexplained winds. All told,\u00a0<\/span>16 bands will grace the stage at this year\u2019s Otherfest.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gates open at 5 pm on Friday, and admission for the festival will be $25 at the gate.\u00a0<\/span>Food vending for Otherfest will include area food trucks. Beverage vending will be<\/span>
\nsponsored by Mitchell Distributing<\/strong>. Small coolers are permitted inside the festival\u00a0<\/span>grounds. Car-pooling as well as camping are strongly encouraged for the festival.<\/span>
\nAn Adopt-A-Band campaign has been set up to give regional businesses and private\u00a0<\/span>donors sponsorship opportunities for the festival, all of which are tax deductible through\u00a0<\/span>Keep Cleveland Boring\u2019s 501(c)(3) status.<\/span><\/p>\n
