The Oxford Film Festival<\/strong> will be offering grant opportunities for local\u00a0<\/span>filmmakers through the Magnifying Glass Fellowship in<\/strong> Mississippi<\/strong>. Filmmakers from\u00a0<\/span>Mississippi can submit their application online along with their idea for a short\u00a0<\/span>documentary on social issues. Small grants will be awarded to an application and their\u00a0<\/span>documentary will be screened at the Oxford Film Festival in February 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Magnifying Glass Fellowship in Mississippi aims to assist micro-budgeted,\u00a0<\/span>expediently produced progressive or radical short films that aggressively investigate\u00a0<\/span>social injustice. Ideal projects will run 2 to 5 minutes in length and require no more than\u00a0<\/span>$2,500 in total budget. Projects may broach a number of larger issues, including those\u00a0<\/span>of violence, racism, sexism, homophobia, and gun control, but the ideal proposal will be\u00a0<\/span>deeply specific.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prospective filmmakers should submit a one-page treatment, an expected total\u00a0<\/span>budget for their project, a description of intention for funds awarded, key crew bios, a\u00a0<\/span>prior sample work no more than 5 minutes in length, and an outreach strategy.\u00a0<\/span>Preference will apply to filmmakers who are invested in documenting oppressed\u00a0<\/span>communities of which they are a part. While all involved organizations champion\u00a0<\/span>creative allyship, these grants seek to support the lenses of those who know injustice\u00a0<\/span>firsthand and are able to quickly bring awareness to specific injustices within these\u00a0<\/span>communities.<\/span><\/p>\n
