Thacker Mountain Radio<\/strong> returns to Tupelo! Get on over to The Link Centre<\/strong> for an evening of music, poetry, and hand clappin’, foot stompin’ good times. Admission is free. Join hosts<\/span>\u00a0Jim Dees<\/strong> and Thacker house band the Yalobushwhackers<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span>The guests will be poet Derrick Harriell<\/strong>, blues musician Marcus \u201cMookie\u201d Cartwright<\/strong>, and soul-pop rockers Hannah Gill & The Hours<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span>Both bands will perform full sets following the radio show,\u00a0from 9\u201310 pm.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Beer and wine will be available.<\/span><\/div>\n

In Derrick Harriell<\/strong>\u2019s latest poetry collection,\u00a0Stripper in Wonderland<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(LSU Press), percussive poems move from birth to death, funk to hip-hop, and racism to religion as Harriell explores the life of a modern black man transplanted from the American Midwest to the Deep South. Harriell directs the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program at the University of Mississippi<\/strong>.<\/span><\/div>\n

Maryland natives Hannah Gill & The Hours<\/strong> blends 70s lo-fi pop and rock with contemporary soul and blues. Songwriter\/vocalist Gill’s soulful, lush vocals are set off by Brad Hammonds<\/strong>\u2019 jazzy arrangements and improvisational guitar. Hannah Gill & The Hours have just released a new five-song EP,\u00a0Lost in Words<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/div>\n

Marcus \u201cMookie\u201d Cartwright<\/strong> started out as teenage prodigy learning Howlin’ Wolf<\/strong> songs at the knee of Hubert Sumlin<\/strong>. He is now an accomplished live performer who moves easily between acoustic and electric blues styles. His Marcus \u201cMookie\u201d Cartwright Band appears widely on the festival circuit and showcases Cartwright\u2019s formidable guitar skills.\u00a0\"The<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n
