Como, Mississippi<\/strong> Bluesman RL Boyce<\/strong> was first recorded in 1971. Playing percussion on his 15th birthday with his Uncle, Othar Turner’s Fife & Drum band<\/strong>. <\/span><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>In 2018 at 62 years old and a recent Grammy nominee, Como will celebrate Boyce\u2019s 63rd birthday\u00a0August 16-17th. A\u00a0lifetime of creating music, the town invites all to revel in his astounding achievements.<\/span><\/div>\n

Rooted in the family tradition Sherena Boyce,<\/strong> RL\u2019s daughter and famed\u00a0<\/span>#1 Juke Joint Dancer, has put together a star studded Hill Country Blues line up to shake \u2018em on down. To help everyone get in a hypnotic head,\u00a0 Sherena billed two notable area family groups, The Hurt Family Fife & Drum band<\/strong>, and Sharde Thomas & The Rising Stars<\/strong>. Plus a bunch of outstanding players including Kenny\u00a0 Brown, Dwayne Burnside, Joyce SheWolf Jones, Cam Kimbrough, Mule Man Massey, Eric Deaton,<\/strong> and many more.<\/span><\/div>\n

Get skoolin\u2019 and join the band. Learn the centuries old art of Fife & Drum music from the big blues man and friends. An art forum taught through Afro-American families throughout Mississippi. Spellbinding, hypnotic, and infectious fife and drum music origins date back to the end of the civil war. RL will be available to share his licks and inspire ones own style. Fife & Drum instruction, and history will be shared by Willie Hurt<\/strong>, first cousin to RL Boyce.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

From raucous yard party performance to tender images of RL cradling his daughter. Yancey\u2019s intimate eye gives an honest glimpse into the life of a 21c. Afro-American Mississippi Blues musician.<\/span><\/div>\n
