This Memorial Day weekend Oxford<\/strong> will be treated to the third annual Destination Oxford Car Show and Parade<\/strong>. The event kicks of Friday, May 25 with a Cruise-In<\/strong> and opening night registration at the Oxford Conference Center<\/strong> from 4:30\u20136:30 pm. This year, registration is open to all makes and models, regardless of year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Organizer Jason Plunk<\/strong> says this is a big change for the car show, and the change was made due to popular demand. \u201cYear one was 1970 and older. Year two was 1979 and older. This year it is an open show. The decision was made to open it up totally by popular demand. There are so many cool rides that aren\u2019t necessarily \u201cold\u201d in our community, so . . . we changed the rules to include everyone.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On Saturday, visitors can expect several highlights starting at 8 am. Spectators and participants alike will have the day to take in the sights of the incredible cars and trucks present (remember, look but don\u2019t touch!) and enjoy food, fun, music, and over $2000 in cash prizes being given away.<\/span><\/p>\n

Previous highlights to the show have included a 1937 Cord 812 Custom Beverly<\/strong>\u2014quite an unusual sighting as there were fewer than 100 of these cars ever built. Other favorites also includeda registrant in a wheelchair who had his hotrod outfitted with hand controls, and a local high school student who registered the mustang his father had received from his own father in high school.<\/span><\/p>\n

It takes a lot of effort to start and maintain an event like a car show, and Oxford is lucky to be enjoying such sights for free.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jason said, \u201cOxford is a great destination\u2014thus the name\u2014and having our streets filled with cars and trucks for everyone to enjoy during the parade . . . is a great idea. The event is presented by Belk Ford and they have been the presenting sponsor since year one. Without their financial support, there would be no car show.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The event culminates in the grand parade starting at 2 pm Saturday, which will take participants from the Oxford Conference Center through downtown Oxford. The parade route extends from the Sisk\/Highway 7 exchange to Highway 30, where it heads to North Lamar and continues around the square to Jefferson Street, then heading to 16th Street in front of Faulkner\u2019s grave site and back to Sisk to return to the Conference Center.\u00a0\"The<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n
