Thacker Mountain Radio Hour<\/strong> will be live at Double Decker Arts Festival<\/strong> Friday, April 27, at 7 pm. Though on a different night and different location, the show will be the same great spotlight of literature and music it is every week at Off-Square Books<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The guest author will be Aminatta Forna<\/strong>\u00a0with her novel Happiness. <\/em>The\u00a0music for the evening is\u00a0Liz Brasher Band<\/a><\/strong> and The Delta Saints<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>as well as Thacker Mountain Radio Hour house band the Yalobushwackers<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

About the Author:
\n<\/strong><\/span>\"\"<\/a>Aminatta Forna\u00a0was born in Scotland<\/strong>, raised in Sierra Leone<\/strong> and Great Britain<\/strong> and spent periods of her childhood in Iran<\/strong>, Thailand<\/strong> and Zambia<\/strong>. She is the award-winning author of the novels\u00a0The Hired Man<\/cite>,\u00a0The Memory of Love<\/cite>\u00a0and\u00a0Ancestor Stones<\/cite>, and a memoir\u00a0The Devil that Danced on the Water<\/cite>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aminatta\u2019s books have been translated into eighteen languages. Her essays have appeared in\u00a0Freeman\u2019s<\/cite>,\u00a0Granta<\/cite>,\u00a0The Guardian<\/cite>,\u00a0LitHub<\/cite>,\u00a0The Nation<\/cite>,\u00a0The New York Review of Books<\/cite>,\u00a0The Observer<\/cite>\u00a0and\u00a0Vogue<\/cite>. She has written stories for BBC radio and written and presented television documentaries including \u201cThe Lost Libraries of Timbuktu\u201d (BBC Television, 2009) and \u201cGirl Rising\u201d (CNN, 2013).<\/span><\/p>\n

Aminatta is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature<\/strong> and a member of the Folio Academy<\/strong>. She has acted as judge for the Samuel Johnson Prize<\/strong>, the Bailey Prize<\/strong> for Women\u2019s Fiction, the Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award<\/strong>, the Caine Prize<\/strong> and the International Man Booker Prize<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2003 Aminatta established the Rogbonko Project<\/strong> to build a school in a village in Sierra Leone. The charity has also run a number of projects in the spheres of adult education, sanitation and maternal health.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aminatta is the recipient of a Windham Campbell Award<\/strong> from Yale University<\/strong>, has won the Commonwealth Writers\u2019 Prize Best Book Award<\/strong> 2011, a Hurston Wright Legacy Award<\/strong> the Liberaturpreis in Germany and the Aidoo-Snyder Book Prize<\/strong>. She has been a finalist for the Neustadt Prize for Literature<\/strong>, the Orange Prize for Fiction<\/strong>, the IMPAC Award<\/strong> and the Warwick Prize<\/strong>. Aminatta Forna was made OBE<\/strong> in the Queen\u2019s New Year\u2019s Honours <\/strong>2017.<\/span><\/p>\n

She is currently Lannan Visiting Chair of Poetics<\/strong> at Georgetown University<\/strong> and Professor of Creative Writing<\/strong> at Bath Spa University<\/strong>.\u00a0\"The<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n
