Though on a different night and different location, the show will be the same great spotlight of literature and music it is every week at <strong>Off-Square Books<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The guest author will be <strong>Aminatta Forna<\/strong>\u00a0with her novel <em>Happiness. <\/em>The\u00a0music for the evening is<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/the-unique-southern-sound-of-liz-brasher-band-hits-double-decker-arts-festival\/\">Liz Brasher Band<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/the-delta-saints-bless-double-decker-arts-festival\/\">The Delta Saints<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>as well as Thacker Mountain Radio Hour house band the <strong>Yalobushwackers<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>About the Author:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/aminatta-forna-web.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"401\" class=\"size-full wp-image-46066 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/aminatta-forna-web.jpg?resize=300%2C401\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>Aminatta Forna\u00a0was born in <strong>Scotland<\/strong>, raised in <strong>Sierra Leone<\/strong> and <strong>Great Britain<\/strong> and spent periods of her childhood in <strong>Iran<\/strong>, <strong>Thailand<\/strong> and <strong>Zambia<\/strong>. She is the award-winning author of the novels\u00a0<cite>The Hired Man<\/cite>,\u00a0<cite>The Memory of Love<\/cite>\u00a0and\u00a0<cite>Ancestor Stones<\/cite>, and a memoir\u00a0<cite>The Devil that Danced on the Water<\/cite>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Aminatta\u2019s books have been translated into eighteen languages. Her essays have appeared in\u00a0<cite>Freeman\u2019s<\/cite>,\u00a0<cite>Granta<\/cite>,\u00a0<cite>The Guardian<\/cite>,\u00a0<cite>LitHub<\/cite>,\u00a0<cite>The Nation<\/cite>,\u00a0<cite>The New York Review of Books<\/cite>,\u00a0<cite>The Observer<\/cite>\u00a0and\u00a0<cite>Vogue<\/cite>. She has written stories for BBC radio and written and presented television documentaries including \u201cThe Lost Libraries of Timbuktu\u201d (BBC Television, 2009) and \u201cGirl Rising\u201d (CNN, 2013).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Aminatta is a Fellow of the <strong>Royal Society of Literature<\/strong> and a member of the <strong>Folio Academy<\/strong>. She has acted as judge for the <strong>Samuel Johnson Prize<\/strong>, the <strong>Bailey Prize<\/strong> for Women\u2019s Fiction, the <strong>Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award<\/strong>, the<strong> Caine Prize<\/strong> and the<strong> International Man Booker Prize<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In 2003 Aminatta established the <strong>Rogbonko Project<\/strong> to build a school in a village in Sierra Leone. The charity has also run a number of projects in the spheres of adult education, sanitation and maternal health.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Aminatta is the recipient of a <strong>Windham Campbell Award<\/strong> from <strong>Yale University<\/strong>, has won the <strong>Commonwealth Writers\u2019 Prize Best Book Award<\/strong> 2011, a <strong>Hurston Wright Legacy Award<\/strong> the Liberaturpreis in Germany and the <strong>Aidoo-Snyder Book Prize<\/strong>. She has been a finalist for the <strong>Neustadt Prize for Literature<\/strong>, the <strong>Orange Prize for Fiction<\/strong>, the <strong>IMPAC Award<\/strong> and the <strong>Warwick Prize<\/strong>.
