Area businesses and restaurants contribute items for silent auction and raffles<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/a>For the second year Theatre Oxford<\/strong> is raising money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation<\/strong> during their season\u2019s final four show run of Sharr White<\/strong>\u2019s The Other Place\u00a0<\/em>April 19-22<\/span><\/span> at the Powerhouse<\/strong>. Theatre-goers will be able to bid on original art by Allan Innman<\/strong> and pottery by Keith Stewart<\/strong> and buy raffle tickets for gift certificates from a number of Oxford<\/strong> and Memphis<\/strong> businesses and restaurants.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cApril is Parkinson Disease awareness month, which works out well for us to have a fundraiser during the last show of our season,\u201d said Matthew King<\/strong>, Theatre Oxford board president. \u201cWe had a lot of community support last year and raised $1,500 for Team Fox. We hope to beat that this year.\u201d The themes of brain research will be echoed on stage as well.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The Other Place<\/em>, which centers around successful neurologist Julianna Smithton, is described by Variety<\/em> as \u201ca haunting drama so cleverly constructed that the nature and depth of the problem aren\u2019t revealed until the last shattering scene.\u201d Director Brian Whisenant<\/strong> was hooked after reading only a few pages of the script.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNothing is quite as it seems in the play,\u201d said Whisenant, \u201cOne of the things that make this play so unique is that although it is told almost entirely from the perspective of Juliana, in the words of actor Kayleigh Graham, who wonderfully inhabits this woman, Juliana is quite the unreliable narrator. And that\u2019s all I will say about that. Come find me after the play if you want to chat more about what you just saw.\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The Other Place<\/em> performances are April 19\u201321 at 7:30 pm and April 22 at 2 pm.<\/span><\/span> Tickets are available online through their website www.theatreoxford.com<\/a> or at the door.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n
