If you’ve ever wondered about the history of Oxford<\/strong>, Mississippi<\/strong> and the University of Mississippi<\/strong> then Starke Miller<\/strong> has just the tour for you on April 13.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“We cover the Lyceum (1848), the Confederate Soldier Monument (1906), the University Greys Tiffany Memorial window in Ventress Hall (1890), the Old Chapel (1853), the Old Observatory (1860), the campus Confederate Cemetery (1862), Memory House, Walton-Young House, the Elma Meek house, Trustee James M. Howry House, the Union Female College, The Square, Miss Mary Wendel House, St. Peter’s Cemetery, College Hill Church and Cemetery,” said Miller on his Miller Civil War Tours Facebook page.<\/span><\/p>\n

Each location will be covered in depth with knowledge Miller has gained from his personal research spanning 28 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Pre War student Life, the University Greys, the history of all pre War campus buildings, Founding of the University, the University Hospital after Shiloh, the dead from that hospital, pre War fraternities, the graduation of 1866, the origin of the name Ole Miss, University students in the War, Nathan Bedford Forrest in Oxford and on Campus, Civil War Memorials on campus and in Oxford, Four Union raids on Oxford, the Burning of the Square, the history of College Hill Church and a number of UM Confederate Alumni buried there. I am going to talk your ears off with information no one else knows but me,” said Miller.<\/span><\/p>\n

The walking tour on April 13 will have frequent stops as well as a pit stop at Newk’s for lunch.\u00a0<\/span>This will be Miller’s 21st time giving this tour across the University of Mississippi and Oxford.
