The film I Am Evidence<\/em><\/strong> will be screened at Malco on Saturday, February 10, at 10 am. The film was produced and directed entirely by women and follows the lives of four rape survivors as they navigate the criminal justice system while dealing with the fact that their rape kits went untested for years.<\/span><\/p>\n

Directors Geeta Gandbhir<\/strong> and Trish Adlesic<\/strong> along with producer Mariska Hargitay<\/strong>, from Law and Order: SVU<\/em>, show just how challenging the criminal justice system can be for survivors of sexual assault.<\/span><\/p>\n

I Am Evidence<\/em> depicts survivors healing as they fight for justice and asks two important questions: Why is there a rape kit backlog?<\/em> What can we do to fix the problem?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The film reveals the historic nature of the way we treat the crime of sexual assault in this country as well as the positive effects that occur when perpetrators are held accountable and survivors are given an opportunity for healing and justice.<\/span><\/p>\n

I Am Evidence<\/em> highlights how the system has prevented justice and shines a light on those who are leaders in the fight for justice. This message of the film is clear: survivors matter.<\/span><\/p>\n

The website for the movie, IAmEvidenceTheMovie.com<\/a>, gives a chance for people to join a mailing list to stay up to date on the film and be made aware of all social action campaigns. Options to donate, host a screening, and spread awareness are also available.<\/span><\/p>\n

This film sends a clear messages that survivors matter, and the way we treat sexual assault needs to change. Their perpetrators will be held accountable and survivors will heal.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the film there will be an in depth discussion panel hosted by Mark Rabinowitz at 11:30 am. Rabinowitz is a critic, journalist, producer, film festival staffer, and media consultant. He is also the festivals head programmer for documentaries, features and shorts. The panel will feature the filmmakers and special guests.<\/span><\/p>\n
