{"id":43218,"date":"2017-12-01T10:45:13","date_gmt":"2017-12-01T16:45:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=43218"},"modified":"2017-12-01T10:45:44","modified_gmt":"2017-12-01T16:45:44","slug":"ncaa-ruling-throws-the-book-at-ole-miss-football","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/ncaa-ruling-throws-the-book-at-ole-miss-football\/","title":{"rendered":"NCAA Ruling Throws the Book at Ole Miss Football"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"ROlviz\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The <strong>NCAA<\/strong>\u2019s <strong>Committee on Infractions<\/strong>\u00a0issued it&#8217;s ruling in <strong>Ole Miss<\/strong>\u2019s recruiting scandal on Friday morning.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li id=\"NlKOYU\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A two-year bowl-ban year: 2017 (which was already self-imposed), and 2018.<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"v5v1hD\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Probation running concurrently with current probation for a total of four years.<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"18kYgd\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Financial penalties.<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"0OQrz6\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A total scholarship reduction of 13 over a period of years. That\u2019s in addition to the 11 over four years that Ole Miss self-imposed, which already meant three or four fewer scholarship players per year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"Tf2jWh\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Every coach named in the NCAA\u2019s investigation has received a show-cause (essentially an NCAA blackball for a period of time) of varying lengths. That doesn\u2019t include new head coach <strong>Matt Luke<\/strong>, who wasn\u2019t named.\u00a0Former coach <strong>Hugh Freeze<\/strong> received a one-year head coach restriction and a two-game suspension for conference games that only applies if he is the head coach.\u00a0Former Rebels assistant coaches disciplined include <strong>David Saunders<\/strong> (8-year show-cause penalty), <strong>Chris Vaughn<\/strong> (5 years), <strong>Chris Kiffin<\/strong> (2 years) and staff member <strong>Barney Farrar<\/strong> (5 years)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Ole Miss faced 21 allegations, including 15 Level I violations. When the university received its Notice of Allegations in February it self-imposed a postseason ban and had to forfeit nearly $8 million in postseason revenue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Because of the total two-year bowl ban, NCAA rules state Ole Miss players are now free to transfer elsewhere without sitting out a season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The <strong>University of Mississippi<\/strong> issued a statement after the ruling that it plans to appeal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> &#8220;The additional postseason ban is excessive and does not take into account the corrective actions that we have made in personnel, structure, policies and processes to address the issues,&#8221; the statement read.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A press conference is scheduled for 1 pm at the <strong>Manning Center<\/strong>.\u00a0<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"25\" height=\"16\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14544\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/TheLocalVoiceLigature-25web.jpg?resize=25%2C16\" alt=\"The Local Voice Ligature\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The NCAA\u2019s Committee on Infractions\u00a0issued it&#8217;s ruling in Ole Miss\u2019s recruiting scandal on Friday morning.
