{"id":42327,"date":"2017-10-16T15:18:51","date_gmt":"2017-10-16T21:18:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=42327"},"modified":"2017-10-16T15:19:28","modified_gmt":"2017-10-16T21:19:28","slug":"ole-miss-settles-lawsuit-with-former-head-coach-houston-nutt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/ole-miss-settles-lawsuit-with-former-head-coach-houston-nutt\/","title":{"rendered":"Ole Miss Settles Lawsuit with Former Head Coach Houston Nutt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The <strong>University of Mississippi<\/strong> and former head football coach <strong>Houston Nutt<\/strong> have announced they have settled their lawsuit out of court.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In a joint statement released Monday, October 16 at 4pm by Ole Miss Athletics and Houston Nutt, they said:<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>&#8220;University of Mississippi and Houston Nutt:<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The lawyers who represent the University and Coach Nutt have communicated during the past few weeks to reach an agreement that would allow the parties to resolve Coach Nutt&#8217;s claim while avoiding the costs and distractions associated with further litigation. The parties have reached such an agreement.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>University of Mississippi:<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Certain statements made by University employees in January 2016 appear to have contributed to misleading media reports about Coach Nutt. To the extent any such statements harmed Coach Nutt&#8217;s reputation, the University apologizes, as this was not the intent. The NCAA&#8217;s Notice of Allegations dated January 22, 2016, did not name or implicate Coach Nutt in any misconduct, and it would have been inappropriate for any University employee to suggest otherwise.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Houston Nutt:<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I am pleased to put the lawsuit behind me.
