{"id":42204,"date":"2017-10-11T19:30:41","date_gmt":"2017-10-12T01:30:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=42204"},"modified":"2017-10-11T17:58:09","modified_gmt":"2017-10-11T23:58:09","slug":"legendary-vocalist-maria-muldaur-coming-to-water-valley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/legendary-vocalist-maria-muldaur-coming-to-water-valley\/","title":{"rendered":"Legendary Vocalist Maria Muldaur Coming to Water Valley"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">On Wednesday, October 18, at 7 pm, legendary vocalist <strong>Maria Muldaur<\/strong> will perform with her <strong>Red Hot Bluesiana Band<\/strong> in <strong>Water Valley<\/strong> at <strong>Foster Music and Arts\u2019 Old School Theater<\/strong> at the <strong>Melonvine Marketplace<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Maria Muldaur is known world-wide for her 1974 mega-hit &#8220;<strong>Midnight at the Oasis<\/strong>,&#8221; which received several <strong>Grammy<\/strong> nominations and enshrined her forever in the hearts of baby boomers everywhere; but despite her considerable pop music success, her 50-year career could best be described a long and adventurous odyssey through the various forms of American roots music.<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Maria-Muldaur-Promo2-2.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" class=\"size-full wp-image-42210 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Maria-Muldaur-Promo2-2.jpg?resize=600%2C800\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Maria-Muldaur-Promo2-2.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Maria-Muldaur-Promo2-2.jpg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In years since \u201cMidnight at the Oasis,\u201d Maria has toured extensively worldwide and has recorded 40 solo albums spanning all kinds of American roots music, including gospel, R&amp;B, jazz and Big Band (not to mention several award-winning children\u2019s albums), often joining forces with some of the top names in the business, such as <strong>Bonnie Raitt<\/strong>, <strong>Phoebe Snow<\/strong>, <strong>Ruthie Foster<\/strong>, <strong>David Bromberg<\/strong>, <strong>Alvin Youngblood Hart<\/strong>, and <strong>Bob Margolin<\/strong> to name just a few. Maria has recorded and produced on-average an album per year, several of which have been nominated for Grammy and other awards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In 2011, Muldaur returned to her much-beloved <strong>New Orleans<\/strong> (the place she calls her \u201cmusical and spiritual home\u201d) to record <i><strong>Steady Love<\/strong>,<\/i> an electric blues album that reflects the kind of music she loves to perform live. <i>Steady Love<\/i> reached #1 on the Living Blues Chart, and garnered her another nomination for Best Traditional Female Blues Artist from the Blues Foundation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In 2012, for her 40th album, Maria produced <strong><i>First Came Memphis Minnie<\/i><\/strong>, a loving tribute to the pioneering blues woman who inspired and influenced so many female blues artists who followed in her footsteps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Then in 2013, Maria focused on three special collaborations\u2014performing worldwide with her old Jug Band mates, in a series of 50th Anniversary<strong> Kweskin Jug Band Reunion<\/strong> concerts, teaming up with the <strong>Campbell Brothers<\/strong>, world-renowned Sacred Steel Gospel artists, for a very special presentation entitled <strong>\u201cSpirit &amp; The Blues\u201d,<\/strong> and touring as a special guest artist with Bill Wyman and <strong>The Rhythm Kings<\/strong>, while continuing to perform with her own Red Hot Bluesiana Band as well. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Showtime is 7 pm and doors open at 6:30 pm.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>The show is general admission, tickets are $20 and they can be purchased at the door on the day of the show with cash or they can be purchased with a credit card online <a href=\"http:\/\/buytickets.at\/fostermusicarts\/116141\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">This show is sponsored in part by <strong>Turnage Drug Store <\/strong>of Water Valley,\u00a0and, as always, all FMA shows at the Old School Theater are made possible by <strong>The Caryl Company<\/strong> and the Melonvine Marketplace.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The Old School Theater is a revitalized 250-seat school auditorium with brand new stage, sound, lights, and seating located inside the Melonvine Marketplace on the south side of Water Valley at 817 South Main Street.
