All through the month of june, Mississippi<\/span><\/strong> is celebrating its bicentennial across the entire state. There will be three event locations. Celebration South<\/span><\/strong> will be held in Gulfport<\/span><\/strong>, Celebration Central<\/span><\/strong> is in Jackson<\/span><\/strong>, and Celebration North<\/span><\/strong> will be in Oxford<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is a great honor for Oxford to be chosen as the home of the Bicentennial Celebration North. As the literary capital of the state and home to William Faulkner<\/span><\/strong> himself, the Velvet Ditch is no stranger to the great artists that call Mississippi home.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Powerhouse<\/span><\/strong> has an artist gallery from June 1\u201330 and a Photo series workshop from June 19\u201325 where aspiring photographers can hone their craft.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

J.D. Williams Library<\/span><\/strong> will be hosting a Mississippi Encyclopedia Panel Discussion<\/span><\/strong> on June 19 as well as opening the Mississippi: 200 Years of Statehood Exhibit<\/span><\/strong> on June 21 in the Faulkner Room<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Families should stop by the University of Mississippi Museum<\/span><\/strong> on June 24 for Family Activity Day<\/span><\/strong> from 10 am\u201312 pm. Ticket holders will then want to make their way towards the Gertrude C. Ford Center\u00a0for entertainment at 6:30 pm from winner of the 2015 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest<\/span><\/strong>, David Lee<\/span><\/strong>, the Mississippi Bicentennial Symphony orchestra<\/span><\/strong>, and the Mississippi Bicentennial Singers<\/span><\/strong>. Following that will be the Governor’s Concert<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0featuring Marty Stuart<\/span><\/strong>, Steve Azar<\/span><\/strong>, and Mac McNally<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other events for Celebration North have also been affected. The live taping of Thacker Mountain on Friday at 5 pm has been moved to The Lyric Theater and seats will be given on a first come first serve basis.
