In the United States, it is estimated that a person dies by suicide every 15 minutes, which means that each year 34,000 lives are lost. It is also estimated that close to one million people attempt suicide each year. This year the UM-Clinical Disaster Research Collaborative, in conjunction with the Department of Psychology, Psi Chi, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, will hold an Out of the Darkness Walk<\/span><\/strong>, and they\u2019re asking for your help.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/DarkWIP.jpg?resize=261%2C350\" "\\"DarkWIP\\"")
By participating in this event<\/strong><\/em>,<\/span> you will not only be showing your support<\/strong><\/span> by walking for the cause and donating money, but you will also be helping to save lives<\/strong><\/span>. The money raised in this walk will go towards research and education programs to prevent suicide and save lives, increasing local and national awareness about depression and suicide, and assisting survivors of suicide loss.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
