True to its Delta roots, the sixth annual <\/span>Delta Soul Celebrity Golf and Charity Event<\/b> promises to be filled with the southern hospitality and laidback good times that has become the signature of this epic fundraising event for the <\/span>Steve Azar St. Cecilia Foundation <\/b>(SASCF). \u00a0This year\u2019s event is being held on June 8\u201310 in <\/span>Greenville<\/b>, <\/span>Mississippi<\/b>. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Recently appointed by Governor Bryant as the Music and Culture Ambassador of Mississippi<\/span>,<\/span> Steve Azar\u2019s desire to show off the Delta\u2019s best attributes to the brightest stars throughout the country started years ago when he returned to his home community in 2011. \u00a0\u201cThere is nothing like bringing our celebrity friends and sponsors together from all over the nation and showing them what Greenville and the Delta is really all about — great food and drink, incredible music and of course, our people coming together to raise money to invest back into this community we all call \u2018home\u2019,\u201d said Steve Azar, who brainstormed this event with wife Gwen and co-chairs, <\/span>Beth Mansour<\/b> and <\/span>Esther Virden<\/b>, as a way to \u201cgive back\u201d to his hometown. \u00a0More than $600,000 has been given to support the arts, children and education in the Delta and beyond since the Foundation\u2019s inception. \u00a0Some of the organizations who have previously benefitted from the Foundation\u2019s generosity include the <\/span>Boys and Girls Club of Washington County<\/b>, <\/span>Camp Looking Glass<\/b>, <\/span>Delta Center Stage<\/b>, <\/span>Delta Children\u2019s Museum<\/b>, <\/span>Delta 180<\/b>, <\/span>Delta Music Institute and Delta State University<\/b>, <\/span>Education Foundation of Greenville<\/b>, <\/span>Grammy Museum, Mississippi<\/b>, <\/span>Greenville Arts Council<\/b>, <\/span>Greenville Harmony Chorus<\/b>, <\/span>Greenville Renaissance Scholars<\/b>, <\/span>St. Joseph Catholic School Art and Music Programs,<\/b> and <\/span>Washington School Art and Music Programs<\/b>. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Schedule of Events includes a private celebrity dinner at the world-famous <\/span>Doe\u2019s Eat Place<\/b> to kick-off the event in style on Thursday, June 8. \u00a0Following an incredible meal, the party will continue at the <\/span>Walnut Street Blues Bar<\/b> for a true juke joint experience. The Celebrity Cup kicks off on Friday, June 9 followed by the <\/span>Big Night Dinner<\/b> and Live Auction Party. \u00a0Entertainment at the Big Night Party will be epic this year with a special performance by <\/span>Steve Azar & The Kings Men<\/b>, whose debut album, \u201cDown At The Liquor Store\u201d is set to be released July 28<\/span>th<\/span> with a feature film documentary to follow. In addition, exciting celebrity guest performances will be on tap for the evening. \u00a0The Live Auction will be a \u201cmust attend\u201d for anyone looking for that special one-of-a-kind item ranging from fabulous vacation packages to unique sporting event packages; there is sure to be something to spark the interest of everyone who attends these Friday evening festivities! \u00a0The Delta Soul tournament, itself, will start at the<\/span> Greenville Golf and Country Club<\/b> on Saturday morning followed by a <\/span>Delta inspired Catfish Fry<\/b>. \u00a0Saturday night will conclude with the Steve Azar and Friends Concert Jam to be held at the Harlow\u2019s Casino Resort and Spa.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Reggie Smith<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

F<\/span>or the second year in a row, \u00a0baseball great, <\/span>Reggie Smith<\/b> will host a Baseball Clinic here in Greenville for youth ages 9 and above. The Baseball Clinic will take place from 8 am\u201312 pm on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Legion Field at the Delta Sportsplex, located at 1040 South Raceway Road in Greenville. \u00a0Smith will be teaching not only the basics of baseball, including fielding, throwing and hitting, but the basics of life helping to mold our community\u2019s youth into future athletes. \u00a0Registration will begin at 7:30 am at the Delta Sportsplex. \u00a0The cost is $10 per athlete and all proceeds will benefit the <\/span>Delta Sportplex<\/b>. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
