Robyn Tannehill<\/strong>, 2nd ward alderman, announced on December 28 that she will be running for Mayor of Oxford<\/strong> in the next election this June<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The candidacy comes after much prayer and consultation with my family, community leaders and friends,” said Tannehill. “I know without a doubt the time is right.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Growth is a noted concern<\/a> in Oxford. The town is currently the, “fastest growing community in the State of Mississippi.” For the next mayor, handling the expansion will be at the forefront of their duties.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We need a Mayor with vision for Oxford’s future who has experience working in these areas, and can creatively solve problems, and work as a consensus builder with county, university, and state officials,” said Tannehill. “I have spent many years serving this community, the past four as an Alderman, and believe that I have demonstrated my ability to serve effectively and fairly.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Tannehill’s resume includes a grocery list of experience working in the Oxford community.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Over the last 28 years I have have been blessed to experience Oxford from several different perspectives: student, newlywed, University of Mississippi employee, City of Oxford employee, a small business owner, a volunteer, and a parent with children in the Oxford Public School District,” said Tannehill.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I do not see myself as a politician, but as a community advocate,” said Tannehill.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The upward trajectory in servicing her community has not been jarring to the 2nd ward alderman.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Four years ago, I believed that entering public service was a natural progression for my work in our wonderful community.” said Tannehill. “I feel the same way about running for Mayor. God has blessed our community so richly, and I want to serve as Mayor of Oxford to continue the dedicated work of Mayor Pat Lamar, Mayor Richard Howorth and Mayor Pat Patterson, as well as the existing Board of Aldermen and our city employees.”<\/span><\/p>\n

This news comes not long after Mayor Pat Patterson<\/strong> announced<\/a> that this will be his final term.<\/span><\/p>\n
