On\u00a0Thursday<\/strong>, December<\/strong> 8<\/span>, from\u00a06 pm\u20137:30 pm<\/span>, North Light Gallery<\/strong> and Oxford Writes<\/strong><\/a> will co-host a reception at The Orchard<\/strong> in<\/strong> Oxford<\/strong>, highlighting some of Walt Mixon<\/strong>\u2019s memorable photos. Mixon, one of Oxford\u2019s all-time favorite photographers who left the world a multitude of wonderful pictures, died in 2008.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mixon\u2019s son, Avery<\/strong>, who provided the photos,\u00a0will be a special guest at the reception and will comment on his father’s work. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Also as a part of the event,\u00a0seven writers from the Oxford Writes group will be featured. The seven responded to one of Mixon\u2019s photos in a genre of their choice, and each handwritten response is an important and unique part of this exhibit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The featured writers for this event are Wesley Bell<\/strong>, Jason Lucas<\/strong>, Don Ross<\/strong>, Dave Waddell<\/strong> all from Oxford, Carol Easley<\/strong> and Sandra Hamilton<\/strong> of Calhoun County<\/strong>, and Galen Holley<\/strong> of Belden<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Visitors that evening will have the opportunity to interact with the writers through brief interview questions which will be used to enter a drawing for a gift certificate to Square Books<\/strong><\/a>. The writers will also have the opportunity to read a portion of their work.<\/span><\/p>\n

The reception is free and some of Oxford’s favorite food offerings will be available.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

North Light Gallery is located at 295 Highway 7 North<\/strong> inside the Orchard in Oxford.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The event will conclude 2016 activities for North Light Gallery and Oxford Writes. North Light Gallery is in its third year as a part of Oxford\u2019s arts scene. Oxford Writes, with its mission to advance the art of writing and to involve writers of all levels in its projects, is in its first year as a part of the Oxford writing community.<\/span><\/p>\n
