{"id":36153,"date":"2016-10-15T10:00:50","date_gmt":"2016-10-15T15:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=36153"},"modified":"2016-10-13T16:42:23","modified_gmt":"2016-10-13T21:42:23","slug":"argiflex-hits-the-road-in-support-of-new-release-throatless","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/argiflex-hits-the-road-in-support-of-new-release-throatless\/","title":{"rendered":"Argiflex Hits The Road in Support of New Release Throatless"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Argiflex<\/strong>, a.k.a. <strong>Curtis Lehr<\/strong>, is an experimental neo-rave artist based out of <strong>Cleveland<\/strong>, <strong>Mississippi<\/strong>, currently getting ready for a tour across the <strong>Eastern United States<\/strong>. The tour is in support of their upcoming release, <em>Throatless<\/em>, coming out on <strong>Bedlam Tapes<\/strong>. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cIt came together right after I released <em>Cybersmog<\/em> in <strong>December<\/strong>. Max that runs the label contacted me asking if I wanted to put something out . . . so I started pulling stuff together to figure out which songs to record,\u201d said Lehr. \u201cThey\u2019re going to do a 120 tape run of the cassette, which they\u2019re calling their biggest release yet.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The cassette features ten tracks in total, five Argiflex originals accompanied by five remixes by artists affiliated with Bedlam Tapes.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThe project kept building in scope,\u201d said Lehr. \u201cI ended up putting tons and tons of work into the actual mastering and maxing it up.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Lehr included a real treat for those familiar with a certain short-lived, <strong>Oxford<\/strong>, Mississippi venue.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThere\u2019s actually a live recording I did at The Wall in Oxford, rest in peace,\u201d said Lehr.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Argiflex is an electronic artist unlike most you have seen. On their table of equipment you won\u2019t find any turntables, be it Vinyl, CD, or MP3. Instead, you\u2019ll see a multichannel mixer, analog synthesizers and drum machines, and the \u201cbox of death,\u201d that houses all the effects and filters that help bring their set to life.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Born Curtis Lehr, the producer started out working on just a computer as many in this genre do. This changed after picking up a piece of hardware gear.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cOn the way back from a trip I picked up a drum machine,\u201d said Lehr.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThen my friend Zander said I could use this synthesizer sequencer thing he had. I started doing music with just those two things and it kept building from there. It just got expansive . . . now I\u2019m really efficient with it and can get the results that I want.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The set up that Lehr uses for live performance has stayed mostly the same over the last four years.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cI\u2019ve really liked it because it is really extensive in the sounds it can make while still being really efficient to set up,\u201d said Lehr. \u201cThe first thing I recorded with it was that split with Vexadrem. Then I just kept playing live with it and honing it in the studio. For my senior project at Delta State I used it to record <em>Cybersmog<\/em> and pretty much did the same thing for <em>Throatless<\/em> that is coming out.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The tour will span 18 dates covering the east half of the country.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cIt\u2019s pretty much a sea of six-hour drives,\u201d said Lehr.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Joining Argiflex on the road will be fellow Cleveland resident <strong>Pasmoi<\/strong>, a harsh noise artist.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Traveling on the road with all the gear they have would be less than feasible, so some trimming had to be done.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cI\u2019m just going to take what is on my table for live shows, and a bass amp in case we need to reinforce the sound,\u201d said Lehr. \u201cMaybe a milk crate of some lighting gear. Pasmoi is bringing their harsh noise set up, but that fits in a suitcase.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Seeing Argiflex live is seeing a mad scientist at work.
