{"id":35679,"date":"2016-09-09T10:00:05","date_gmt":"2016-09-09T15:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=35679"},"modified":"2016-09-08T15:46:47","modified_gmt":"2016-09-08T20:46:47","slug":"sweetest-chef-of-the-south-competition-in-jackson-mississippi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/sweetest-chef-of-the-south-competition-in-jackson-mississippi\/","title":{"rendered":"Sweetest Chef of the South Competition in Jackson, Mississippi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">JACKSON, MS &#8212; In partnership with <strong>Visit Ridgeland<\/strong>, <strong>Eat Y\u2019all<\/strong> will present the second annual Sweetest<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Chefs of the South<\/strong> event on Monday, September 12 at <strong>The Lake House<\/strong> in Ridgeland, <strong>Mississippi<\/strong> from 7<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u20138:30 pm (VIP entrance at 6:30 p.m.).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Sweetest Chefs of the South features our region\u2019s top pastry chefs competing in a people\u2019s choice competition for the title, Sweetest Chef of the South, and the opportunity to advance to the <strong>World Food Championships<\/strong> to compete in the <strong>World Dessert Challenge<\/strong> this November. Attendees will serve as food judges and name the winner thru their vote. The event serves as a fundraiser for Extra Table.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cIt\u2019s like a high stakes version of Eat Jackson\u2019s popular Throwdown series,\u201d said <strong>Andy Chapman<\/strong>, creator of the event and founder of<strong> Eat Jackson<\/strong> and Eat Y\u2019all, the host of Sweetest Chefs of the South presented by Visit Ridgeland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cIt\u2019s all the fun of food judging, sampling and a good party &#8211; but with the addition of a next step: the winner will go on to compete for tens of thousands of dollars in cash and prizes at the World Food Championships,\u201d Chapman said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The following chefs will compete:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Austin Agent<\/strong>, Pastry Chef at <strong>City Grocery Restaurant Group<\/strong> <strong>Oxford<\/strong>, MS<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Bretagne Buonaparte<\/strong>, Owner of <strong>Simple Family Bakery<\/strong> in <strong>Monroe<\/strong>, LA<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Nealy Frentz<\/strong>, Chef\/Owner of <strong>LOLA<\/strong> and <strong>Chopped<\/strong> in <strong>Covington<\/strong>, LA<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Brittany Garrigus<\/strong>, Executive Pastry Chef at <strong>The Club, Inc.<\/strong> in <strong>Birmingham<\/strong>, AL<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Dwayne Ingraham<\/strong>, Chef\/Owner of <strong>Sinfully Southern Bakery<\/strong> in Oxford, MS<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Jacqueline Ladnier<\/strong>, Chef\/Owner of <strong>French Kiss Pastries<\/strong> in <strong>Ocean Springs<\/strong>, MS<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Jen Adelsheimer Lancaster<\/strong>, Executive Pastry Chef at <strong>Mangia Bene Restaurant Group<\/strong> in Jackson, MS<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Von Larson<\/strong>, Chef\/Owner of Von\u2019s Bistro in <strong>Mobile<\/strong>, AL<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Stephanie Little<\/strong>, Private Chef &amp; Food Consultant, Oxford, MS<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Mitchell Moore<\/strong>, Chef\/Owner of <strong>Campbell\u2019s Bakery<\/strong> in Jackson, MS<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Mary Jennifer Russell<\/strong>, Chef\/Owner of <strong>Sugaree\u2019s Bakery<\/strong> in <strong>New Albany<\/strong>, MS<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Danielle Smathers<\/strong>, Pastry Chef at (insert location) in <strong>Atlanta<\/strong>, GA<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Emcees for the event will be <strong>Robert St. John<\/strong> and <strong>Martie Duncan<\/strong>. Robert St. John is a Mississippi author and restaurant owner as well as the founder of <strong>Extra Table<\/strong>, the event\u2019s beneficiary. Extra Table partners with <strong>Sysco<\/strong> to deliver nutritious foods at the lowest cost possible directly to local food pantries and soup kitchens. Martie Duncan, <strong>Food Network<\/strong> <strong>Star<\/strong> finalist, cookbook author and queen of party planning from Birmingham, AL, will co-host the event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Guests will also enjoy a savory hot food bar provided by Ridgeland\u2019s top restaurants as well as beverages from <strong>Southern Prohibition<\/strong> brewery in <strong>Hattiesburg<\/strong>, <strong>Charboneau Distillery<\/strong> in <strong>Natchez<\/strong> and <strong>Mississippi Cold Drip<\/strong> in Jackson.
