{"id":35566,"date":"2016-09-07T10:00:31","date_gmt":"2016-09-07T15:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=35566"},"modified":"2016-09-01T13:22:58","modified_gmt":"2016-09-01T18:22:58","slug":"the-jam-jam-fundraiser-september-15-at-the-powerhouse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/the-jam-jam-fundraiser-september-15-at-the-powerhouse\/","title":{"rendered":"The Jam Jam Fundraiser September 15 at The Powerhouse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The second annual <strong>Jam Jam<\/strong>, organized by and to benefit <strong>Sustainable Oxford<\/strong>, is set for September 15 at <strong>The Powerhouse<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cAll the profits go straight into Sustainable Oxford for operation and administration costs,\u201d said project coordinator Shannon Curtis. \u201cThis will be our fall fun fundraiser.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Curtis has been with Sustainable Oxford since the spring and recently worked closely on launching <strong>Sustainable Practices for Our Restaurant Kitchens<\/strong> or S.P.O.R.K. as it more commonly known.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThe idea is to have a fun jam contest and live music,\u201d said Curtis. \u201cWe\u2019re also going to have kids activities and a raffle.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">This year\u2019s raffle contest will be for the grand prize of a year-supply of Jam.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThe jam contestants are going to each donate a jar of jam for a big basket,\u201d said Curtis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Each contestant will submit their own jam, jelly, or similar preserve to be judged by the public. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> \u201cWe\u2019re pretty lenient on it actually being a Jam,\u201d said Curtis. \u201cIt\u2019s really all about having fun and raising money for Sustainable Oxford.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Whereas last year the vessel for the contestants jams was a pancake dinner, this year attendees will be enjoying freshly baked biscuits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cWe\u2019re currently looking for biscuit maker volunteers,\u201d said Curtis. \u201cThe contestants will also be allowed to make their own. One of the women who were asking about the rules is making a bleu cheese biscuit, and she\u2019s doing a jam that\u2019s meant to pair with it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In addition to the food, Sustainable Oxford has arranged for <strong>Talbot Adams<\/strong>, <strong>Starman Jr.<\/strong>, and <strong>Tyler Keith<\/strong> to perform throughout the evening of the event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThe guys at [The End of All Music] recommended me to them,\u201d said Adams. \u201cI\u2019m looking forward to it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Starman Jr. is a dark bedroom pop artist involved with the local tape label <strong>Muscle Beach<\/strong>, started by some employees of <strong>Fat Possum Records.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cBonus recommended Starman Jr. to us and he was happy to do it,\u201d said Curtis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Tyler Keith is a long time member of the local Oxford music scene and has been played in bands such as <strong>Preacher Kids<\/strong>, <strong>The Neckbones<\/strong>, and <strong>Tear Drop City<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Upcoming projects for Sustainable Oxford include working with <strong>Keep Oxford and Lafayette Beautiful<\/strong> for September\u2019s <strong>Liter Pledge<\/strong> event as well as <strong>Food Month<\/strong> in October where they will be educating the public on healthy and sustainable foods as well as a composting workshop on October 6.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Curtis wanted to specifically thank <strong>End of All Music<\/strong>, <strong>Yoknapatawpha Arts Council<\/strong>, and <strong>Stacy Sanford<\/strong> for all of their help and contributions to making the event happen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">If you cannot make it out
