If you\u2019re familiar with the local music scene, you\u2019ll recognize a lot of faces. If not, then trust that we\u2019re all in for a treat in the coming months. Here\u2019s a list of some of the names to keep an eye out for.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Swear Tapes<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/swear-tapes.png\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A blend of indie and pop led by <strong>Jim Barret<\/strong> of the now defunct <strong>Young Buffalo<\/strong>. These guys came out swinging over the summer and haven\u2019t slowed down. <strong>Swear Tapes<\/strong> has had a steady string of shows in Oxford as well as Jackson, Mississippi. If you\u2019re out on a night they\u2019re playing, be sure to stop in. Their next show is August 27 at <strong>Proud Larrys\u2019<\/strong> as part of a string of shows with <strong>Spaceface<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qpVyT6Rgypw\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>[bandcamp width=100% height=120 album=1870853529 size=large bgcol=ffffff linkcol=0687f5 tracklist=false artwork=small]<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Bad Dates<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Originating as a two-piece hard rock outfit consisting of <strong>Jace Hughes<\/strong> on drums and <strong>Jimi Myers<\/strong> on guitar with them both splitting vocal duties, the band has since added <strong>Matthew Clements<\/strong> on bass who you will likely recognize from his former local metal band Midnight Fistfight. Their next show is August 19 at Proud Larrys\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fbaddateskill%2Fvideos%2F1724443517805868%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=560\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Bonus<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Kieran Danielson<\/strong>\u2019s project has been featured in <em>The Local Voice<\/em> on more than one occasion, and for good reason. Bonus is the product of Danielson\u2019s time spent writing solo material over the course of a year and presenting it with a full band. It\u2019s equal parts indie, dream, and pop. Though best suited for summer drives or days by the pool, you shouldn\u2019t miss an opportunity to catch Bonus live.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Eo_e2mES4ko\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>[bandcamp width=100% height=120 album=806060296 size=large bgcol=ffffff linkcol=0687f5 tracklist=false artwork=small]<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">The Great Dying<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong>Oxford\u2019s country-folk duo, consisting of <strong>Will Griffith<\/strong> on guitar and vocals and <strong>Kell Kellum<\/strong> on slide guitar, aren\u2019t the easiest group to see. Kellum plays in a handful of bands that will pull him out of town for shows. If you\u2019re lucky enough to see the guys in their natural habitat, treat yourself to a whiskey and enjoy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Tlc6xuD3NAo\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Nadir Bliss<br \/>\n<\/span>Sean O\u2019hara<\/strong> keeps himself very busy, and he does so under the umbrella of <strong>Nadir Bliss<\/strong>. While the project is currently presented as a full band arrangement, it started from O\u2019hara writing songs on a daily basis and needing somewhere to channel those. Nadir Bliss started as a solo, catch-all for anything he created and still functions as that from time to time, but these days you\u2019re more likely to find him leading his group with guitar and vocals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[bandcamp width=100% height=120 album=1772543978 size=large bgcol=ffffff linkcol=0687f5 tracklist=false artwork=small]<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Ben Ricketts<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong>Seeing <strong>Ben Ricketts<\/strong> live is an experience you\u2019ll be hard-pressed to match in Oxford, Mississippi. Ricketts produces instrumentals that he sings and plays guitar over. Accompanied by his handmade stage props, what you get from a Ben Ricketts show is a psychedelic, art pop show unlike any other. He moved from <strong>Corinth<\/strong>, Mississippi to Oxford this past year, and has yet to slow down. With shows nearly every week in town and consistently touring the south successfully, catching Ben Ricketts live is no hard task.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yJBcbx4VaaI\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Pinebox<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">These guys played their first show at a cramped house with <strong>Carlos Danger<\/strong> and <strong>Holy Ghost Electric Show<\/strong>. Since then they\u2019ve released their EP <em>With You in Acadia<\/em> that came out in June and have worked into a routine of steady shows both in and out of town. Blending together indie, punk, and emo, Pinebox puts together a performance that gets you moving. Their next show is August 19 at Proud Larrys\u2019 with Bad Dates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[bandcamp width=100% height=120 album=755261832 size=large bgcol=ffffff linkcol=0687f5 tracklist=false artwork=small]<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Lo Noom<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong>A.k.a Andrew Newman, Lo Noom moved from Hattiesburg to Oxford to attend Ole Miss as a full time student. He is the most recent resident on this guide, but just as much worth giving a listen. Lo Noom puts out his own brand of experimental R&amp;B\/Pop\u00a0inspired tunes.
