OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 A group of students from the University of Mississippi is promoting a concert that will showcase various local talents. The lineup will consist of three acts: Silas Reed n\u2019 Da Books<\/strong>, Riverside Voodoo<\/strong>, and DJ Wavy Lamborghini<\/strong>. The show will take place at The Levee<\/strong> on Friday, July 29 and will begin at 8 pm.<\/span><\/p>\n

The concert is being put on as a final project for this summer\u2019s Integrated Marketing Communication 353 class. This IMC course focuses on music promotion and is taught by Dr. Jason Cain<\/strong>. Dr. Cain was initially hesitant to undertake such a feat, but was persuaded when his students showed an overwhelming interest in the project. Just like that, A Pretty Good Show promotion group was created by the students. Dr. Cain said, \u201cI thought this would be a better way to learn about music promotion instead of just me standing in the front of the room and talking about it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The show will start with Silas Reed and his band mates Daniel Roebuck<\/strong> and Dave Matthews<\/strong>. Silas is from Knoxville, Tennessee, and has been playing around the Oxford area since 2007. He is the guitarist, vocalist, and programmer for the group. Daniel plays the trumpet and Dave is their percussionist. The band has a very eclectic sound that encompasses funk, rock, electro, soul, and some hip-hop.<\/span><\/p>\n

The second act is Riverside Voodoo<\/strong>. For this event, they will be a trio made up of Jonathan Peters<\/strong> of Jackson, Mississippi, as the lead vocalist and drummer, Mac Jones<\/strong> of Vicksburg, Mississippi, will play the bass and keyboard, and Jake Horner<\/strong> of Cleveland, Tennessee, as the guitarist. This is the first time the group has played together in Oxford since Double Decker weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n

The night will close with Reggie Brown<\/strong>, A.K.A. DJ Wavy Lamborghini. Reggie, a Washington D.C.-native, is a recent broadcast journalism graduate from the University of Mississippi and has been an active DJ for seven years.<\/span><\/p>\n

This project is the first of its kind and is a unique opportunity for Ole Miss students and the rest of the Oxford community to come together to support local music and active education. With only a five-dollar cover, three great local acts, and 25 cent wings happening at the Levee that night, A Pretty Good Show is hoping for a pretty good turnout to match.<\/span><\/p>\n
