However, <b>Talbot Adams<\/b> is a reminder that you don\u2019t have to reinvent the wheel, you just have to make it shine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">His new release, <i>Community\/Recession Era<\/i> is a two-side collection of the last five years of his song writing. Adams brings the same unapologetic honesty he has with past works. There is no bragging, no self-indulgent word play. <i>Community\/Recession Era <\/i>is Adams saying that he\u2019s okay with where he is in life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Songs like \u201c<strong>A<\/strong><b>cceptance<\/b>\u201d speak on finding that ultimate sense of comfort both socially and internally. Then \u201c<b>Different Names<\/b>\u201d where Adams addresses melancholy, awareness, and looking back on the life that you\u2019ve made with the understanding you\u2019re responsible for it all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">With most releases comes a tour, or at least a string of regional shows. Adams, however, is content to, \u201cbe the guy that just releases records.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThere is a part of me that would love to tour,\u201d said Adams. \u201cI don\u2019t want to tour like I use to. I don\u2019t like sleeping on cat hair covered futons. I\u2019ve stayed at punk rock houses, but I can\u2019t do that anymore.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">When asked about his lack of steady shows, Adams responds with awareness and honesty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cIt\u2019s not about scheduling,\u201d said Adams. \u201cI haven\u2019t been much of a draw in this town, and I equate that to my age. The people I ran with in my twenties don\u2019t really go out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Ultimately, his understated presence in the Oxford music comes down to having found comfort. Rather than going out to drink and socialize, Adams is content to stay at home and spend time with his wife and two young boys.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cIf I went out more and made the rounds on a regular basis I would probably get more shows,\u201d said Adams. \u201cI feel kind of isolated [in the music scene]. I\u2019m not much of a draw to college kids. The last few club, bar shows I\u2019ve played in Oxford have been abysmally attended.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">There was a time for Adams when it seemed he was done with music.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cI tried to kill music,\u201d said Adams. \u201cI saw it as this thing that was in the way. It was keeping me up at night thinking about projects I wanted to do or people I wanted to play with. So I just stopped.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">After changing jobs, as well as finding more time and less stress, Talbot began recording songs directly into his iPhone with garage band.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cI use this Blue mic that plugs into my phone and that\u2019s how I recorded the whole album,\u201d said adams. \u201cThere is this high gain setting on the mic. I would play very quietly but have recorded very hot which created something really cool sonically.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Finding a way to record without disturbing his two boys is what allowed him to continue creating without worry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cI could be recording drums and these electric guitar parts in the middle of the night while my family\u2019s asleep,\u201d said adams. \u201cAnd it still sounded really interesting.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">His lo-fi method of recording is not just a matter of convenience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cI actually think my voice works a lot better when I can sing a little quieter,\u201d said Adams. \u201cAnd with this method I can sing very softly, almost a whisper, but it sounds huge on the record.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Lo-fi indie rock is a genre with many faces and tones you can approach with. Adams chose an honest, somber tone that he delivered with grace.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cIt\u2019s kind of a dark record,\u201d said Adams. \u201cI\u2019m okay with that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><i>Talbot Adams will be playing at The End of All Music this Sunday at 2 pm.
