Destination Oxford<\/strong> is a car show and cruise through the square being put on by Jason Plunk<\/strong>, a self-described car guy, who felt it was time had its own event.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBatesville has one, Sardis has one, Pontotoc has one. Everyone has one but Oxford,\u201d said Plunk.<\/span><\/p>\n

Antique cars are a passion for Plunk from a young age.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe first car I ever got was 25 years-old, I\u2019ve always liked old cars,\u201d said Plunk. \u201cMy dad always had fast cars when I was young. We\u2019re car guys. I consider myself a car guy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The car show initially started as a promotional event for 95.5 The Bullseye<\/strong> and then grew into a two-day event.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSince I owned the radio station it made sense that the radio station would have a car show as a summer promotion event,\u201d said Plunk. \u201cThen it spiraled way out of control.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Destination Oxford has $2,000 in cash prizes and 10 trophies. In addition the first 100 to register will receive a grab bag with goodies from local businesses.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFirst and Second place get $500, then ten $100 prizes,\u201d said Plunk.<\/span><\/p>\n

Plunk\u2019s idea behind the trophies is so that everybody has a chance to get a prize.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe I don\u2019t like green,\u201d said Plunk. \u201cIf that\u2019s the case then it doesn\u2019t matter how nice your green car is, because it\u2019s not going to win.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In the spirit of keeping the car show about having fun and checking out classic automobiles, the \u201ctrophies are meant to be fun, festive, and just neat,\u201d said Plunk.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m letting my DJs give away a trophy,\u201d said Plunk. \u201cSince we\u2019re having a cruise on Saturday I\u2019m letting the police officers give away one. There\u2019s one of for the youngest entry, oldest entry, and furthest.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The cruise will start at Oxford Conference Center<\/strong> and snake its way towards the Square.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe may have the street shutdown for an hour, but it\u2019s gonna be neat,\u201d said Plunk. \u201cI\u2019ve talked to parents that are bringing their kids out to see all the cars. These things you don\u2019t see every day.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Plunk wanted to make sure to thank those who helped put on the Destination Oxford Cruise and Car Show.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d like to thank Visit Oxford for helping out as much as they have.\u201d Said Plunk. \u201cAnd also I want to say that the mayor was invaluable in getting the parade cruise together. When the mayor\u2019s giving you the go-ahead, you know it\u2019s gonna be great.\u201d\u00a0\"The<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n
