With it, we expect music, art vendors, and delicious local food. This year, <strong>Jeffery Markese Peavy<\/strong> is making his contribution to the busy festival season with the fifth installment of the \u201cEco-Fashion Show.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cEco-Fashion, a style of fashion that generates from the premises of sustainability and unconventional creativity, has gained an extensive artistic interest in Oxford,\u201d and Thursday, April 21, Peavy will launch his career in fashion with <em>1992,<\/em> inspired by his grandmother\u2019s love for \u201ceclectic and whimsical\u201d 80\u2019s designs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/two-in-dress.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-33022\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-33022 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/two-in-dress.jpg?resize=640%2C961\" alt=\"two in dress\" width=\"640\" height=\"961\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/two-in-dress.jpg?resize=682%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 682w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/two-in-dress.jpg?resize=200%2C300&amp;ssl=1 200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/two-in-dress.jpg?resize=768%2C1153&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/two-in-dress.jpg?w=1066&amp;ssl=1 1066w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a>\u201cThe show itself is catered to looking at <em>1992<\/em> through the lens of my grandmother,\u201d said Peavy. \u201cShe was a really big style maven, trying to make a career for herself around the time I was born.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">His grandmother, Inetta \u201cAbby\u201d Quinn, grew up in McComb, Mississippi, and shared the same love for fashion, pursuing a career in modeling. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cShe wanted to be a model, but she was also interested in fashion design,\u201d said Peavy. \u201cThis is in McComb, Mississippi, back then when there was no one talking becoming a fashion designer or modeling. The show itself, as far as <em>1992<\/em>, articulates her mindset and her fashion in <em>1992<\/em> and how I\u2019m translating that style and aesthetic of clothing into the collection I\u2019m producing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The collection marks Peavy\u2019s largest endeavor yet as a designer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cUsually every year I design a couple pieces,\u201d said Peavy. \u201cThis is the first wearable collection of garments that I\u2019m producing and it\u2019s the largest. This collection has 30 looks.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">As well as launching his career, Peavy hopes this show will aid in creating a network between himself and others in this fashion industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cWhat I really see the show doing is providing connections, giving me a clientele.\u201d said Peavy. \u201cThrough those partnerships I\u2019m able to build my brand.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">His hopes of meeting others in the fashion world worked out better than he had hoped.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cI\u2019ve already been contacted by another artist in town,\u201d said Peavy. \u201cHer name is Trisha Gibson and she\u2019s a hair designer. She\u2019s doing a fashion show at the convention center on Double Decker weekend and I will be showing a small capsule collection there as well.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Finding models for the show was at the forefront of his mind in the month leading up to <em>1992.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cMy principle models, the first girls I contacted\u2014and I would even say my muses for the show\u2014were really close friends,\u201d said Peavy. \u201cI was worried I wouldn\u2019t have enough models for show, but once I booked one model she knew at least one more girl and that\u2019s built up to about 12 models. I even have Ms. Kentucky as a model.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In <em>1992<\/em> Peavy has worked to make it an inclusive exhibition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cI\u2019m working with a range of women\u2019s body sizes,\u201d said Peavy. \u201cUsually I work with double size, that dress form, but I\u2019ve expanded to working with plus-size fashion too.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>1992 <\/em>is scheduled to start at 8 pm at The Powerhouse on University Avenue. Admission to the show is $5. You can see more of Peavy\u2019s work Saturday, April 23, as part of <strong>The Social Scene Hair &amp; Fashion Show<\/strong> at the <strong>Oxford Conference Center<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThis is the first show I\u2019m doing as an independent designer,\u201d said Peavy. \u201cIt\u2019s still eco-fashion, but it\u2019s not related to the university and it\u2019s not a part of green week specifically.
