{"id":32996,"date":"2016-04-11T20:50:07","date_gmt":"2016-04-12T01:50:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=32996"},"modified":"2016-04-11T20:51:00","modified_gmt":"2016-04-12T01:51:00","slug":"mississippi-democrats-to-introduce-emergency-suspension-resolution-in-house-of-representatives-to-repeal-religious-freedom-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/mississippi-democrats-to-introduce-emergency-suspension-resolution-in-house-of-representatives-to-repeal-religious-freedom-bill\/","title":{"rendered":"Mississippi Democrats to Introduce Emergency &#8220;Suspension Resolution&#8221; in House of Representatives to Repeal &#8220;Religious Freedom&#8221; Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Jackson, Miss (TLV) \u2013 Members of the <strong>Mississippi House of Representatives<\/strong> will hold a press conference at <span data-term=\"goog_2131637529\">9:45 am<\/span>, <span data-term=\"goog_2131637530\">Tuesday, April 12th<\/span>, on the <strong>Mississippi Capitol<\/strong> steps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The purpose of the conference is to announce the immediate introduction of a concurrent suspension resolution intended to suspend the rules and regular deadlines in the House of Representatives.\u00a0 Members who opposed the bill will seek the approval of the introduction and passage of the \u201cTHE MISSISSIPPI ECONOMIC &amp; TOURISM RECOVERY ACT (an opportunity to repeal <a href=\"http:\/\/billstatus.ls.state.ms.us\/documents\/2016\/html\/HB\/1500-1599\/HB1523SG.htm\" target=\"_blank\">HB 1523<\/a>, the &#8220;Religious Freedom&#8221; bill Governor <strong>Phil Bryant<\/strong> signed last week.)\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">This resolution is in direct response to the local and national negative consequences on Mississippi, its economic development, tourism industry, and perception of the good people of Mississippi.\u00a0 \u00a0This suspension resolution is the required first step in a process to allow the repeal HB 1523, and all of its discriminatory consequences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Oxford Representative <strong>Jay Hughes<\/strong> continued on his Facebook page:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;Since the constitutional deadline for the introduction of new bills has passed, a &#8216;Suspension Resolution&#8217; will have to be filed in the House,&#8221; Hughes said. &#8220;Then, the Speaker will have to allow it to come up for a vote on the floor. It would then take 2\/3 of all house members to vote to suspend the rules, and allow a bill to repeal 1523 to be introduced and voted upon. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">From there, it would go to the other chamber &#8211; where the Lt. Governor would have to al<span class=\"text_exposed_show\">low a vote.
