Light Beam Rider<\/strong>, originally from Corinth, Mississippi, has released A Place to Sleep Among the Creeps<\/em><\/strong> as its follow up to 2013\u2019s Mississippi<\/em><\/strong> after sitting on the completed album for over a year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lead singer Thomas Sweat<\/strong> spoke with us on where the band is at now and what the move to Nashville meant for them.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe actually recorded [A Place to Sleep Among the Creeps<\/em>] in Mississippi before we moved,\u201d said Sweat. \u201cIt just took a while to get out because of management stuff, the member changes, and getting a tour ready.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The group has since recorded more work that they plan to release.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe actually recorded an EP in January,\u201d said Sweat.<\/span><\/p>\n

The EP marks their first time recording outside of their home state.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe recorded that in Nashville,\u201d said Sweat. \u201cWe\u2019ve got this young guy from Belmont mixing it who\u2019s super hungry and wanting to do something awesome to pump up his r\u00e9sum\u00e9 We\u2019ve just got all these people who are hungry and wanting to do something new and interesting.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Surrounding themselves with young blood was a refreshing change for Sweat.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cRecording in Mississippi, we did it with Winn [McElroy] and he\u2019s done it a million times,\u201d said Sweat. \u201cHe didn\u2019t really have the fire that this new young dude has.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The EP was recorded at Dark Horse Institute<\/strong> in Nashville thanks to \u201csome random free studio time through [the band\u2019s] manager.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe thought it was gonna be a chance to get some demos done, didn\u2019t really have anything prepared,\u201d said Sweat. \u201cOnce we heard the quality of the stuff and the thousands of dollars we could save, we\u2019d spend ten hours in the studio and then come home and work on stuff all night trying to get it ready. It was chaos but we ended up getting six songs done, so that\u2019s pretty cool.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

With six tracks put down and their record just over a month old, the band has not yet decided what they\u2019ll do with the material.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re definitely going to release an EP, but it might be a split with someone else with a few of the songs on it,\u201d said Sweat. \u201cWe\u2019re just ahead of the game right now. We don\u2019t know what we\u2019re gonna do but we have something to release at the end of the year.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Sweat attributes where they are now largely to the impact moving to Nashville had on them.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe wouldn\u2019t have pushed ourselves as much if we didn\u2019t move here,\u201d said Sweat. \u201cI see so many shows every week and I\u2019m like, \u2018Damn I want to do something like that or better than that.\u2019 You really have to find a way to set yourself apart in this city.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Light Beam Rider will host their official album release party at Proud Larrys<\/strong>\u2019<\/strong> on March 31 supported by Holy Ghost Electric Show<\/strong> and Delta Springs<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
