Oxford, Miss. (TLV) – Discussion regarding Oxford<\/strong>‘s sign ordinance was initially scheduled for February 2, but was postponed to February 16 shortly before the meeting called to order.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mayor Patterson<\/strong> attributed the rescheduling to a need for more discussion of the topic and recognized a large pack of letters the office received concerning changes to ordinance.<\/span><\/p>\n

The proposed changes to current sign regulation would introduce a limit on how long you may display a single sign on your property to 365 days. After the initial 365 days, you would then be restricted from displaying any signage for an additional 365 days.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alderman Antonow<\/strong> briefly spoke on where the board currently stood with the issue and explained that the changes were spurred on by a “giant sign on South Lamar that disturbed many.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“We will likely remove the time restriction on temporary signs,” said Alderman Antonow.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was not explicitly stated at the meeting what constituted a temporary sign as opposed to a permanent sign.<\/span><\/p>\n

Weekend and by the night rental signs in front of homes were directly addressed by the alderman as a topic that would be regulated by separate ordinance.<\/span><\/p>\n

The board was adamant\u00a0that discussion would continue regarding sign ordinance.<\/span><\/p>\n

“It’ll come back,” said Alderman Antonow. “You’ll see it again.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
