“One-Way Song”<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Not the flyers brightly placed, suspiciously<\/span><\/p>\n

conspicuous for all to observe. Not her eyes<\/span><\/p>\n

smeared with shadow, base \u2013 <\/span><\/p>\n

faint hues of a rainbow <\/span><\/p>\n

wanting to burst. Not the blood from the swing they\u2019d punch<\/span><\/p>\n

as he skirted by, not the horizontal cuts she\u2019d draw <\/span><\/p>\n

across her pale white wrists. Not the words<\/span><\/p>\n

on his wall, scribbles on a pink <\/span><\/p>\n

high school bathroom stall, nor <\/span><\/p>\n

the terror their voices promised. Not the chanting <\/span><\/p>\n

threats nor preacher\u2019s call, not the burning <\/span><\/p>\n

house or the tortured pet. Not the scorning <\/span><\/p>\n

words at a class play, nor the spitting <\/span><\/p>\n

as she boldly smirked, then walked away. <\/span><\/p>\n

Only the thoughts that keep <\/span><\/p>\n

the difference strong, the days <\/span><\/p>\n

long, the love wrong. Only <\/span><\/p>\n

the selfish heart that sings <\/span><\/p>\n

in a straight, <\/span><\/p>\n

one-way song. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
