The 2016 Oxford Film Festival<\/strong> announced the full schedule and complete slate of films for this year\u2019s edition.\"Embers\"<\/a> A record breaking 144 films (25 features, 119 shorts and music videos) representing 14 countries were selected for the film festival taking place February 17-21 in Oxford, Mississippi. A series of special filmmaker panels including a talk with film and television star Joey Lawrence will be offered for Mississippi filmgoers to attend, 21 short films will screen for the first time anywhere, and 21 alumni filmmakers will see their latest work screen at Oxford with as many as 80 filmmakers planning to attend the popular film festival.<\/p>\n

Narrative feature films in competition this year include; Claire Carr\u00e9\u2019s Embers<\/em>; A.D. Calvo\u2019s The Missing Girl<\/em>; Kostadin Bonev\u2019s The Sinking of Sozopol<\/em>; John W. Mann and Jon Gunn\u2019s The Week<\/em>; and Rupert Glasson\u2019s What Lola Wants<\/em>. Documentary features in competition are: Gerald Peary\u2019s Archie’s Betty<\/em>; Nick Brandestini\u2019s Children of the Arctic<\/em>; Ryan Kelley\u2019s Dixie<\/em>; Neal Broffman\u2019s Help Us Find Sunil Tripathi<\/em>; and Sara Kaye Larson and Joann Self Selvidge\u2019s The Keepers<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Highlights among the \"an<\/a>feature film selections include \u201ccan\u2019t-miss\u201d documentaries like; Amy Berg\u2019s devastating documentary An Open Secret<\/em> about the sexual abuse of minors in Hollywood; Les Blank\u2019s A Poem is a Naked Person<\/em>, his long-awaited profile of musician Leon Russell; Abigail Disney\u2019s The Armor of Light<\/em>, which takes a look at an evangelical preacher\u2019s efforts to discuss gun control; the world premiere of local filmmaker Rex Jones\u2019 Longleaf: The Heart of Pine<\/em>, which traces the history and current status of the South\u2019s primeval forest; and Joanne Grant\u2019s Fundi: The Story of Ella Baker<\/em>, which looks at the life of the civil rights figure.<\/p>\n

On the narrative front, standouts include Tony Bloodworth\u2019s thriller Forced Move<\/em> and Mark Potts\u2019 superhero comedy Spaghetti Man<\/em>, which will both make their world premieres; 5-Second Films\u2019 80\u2019s slasher films parody Dude Bro Party Massacre III<\/em> which is sure to be a crowd pleaser; Johnny Remo\u2019s Saved by Grace<\/em> stars Joey Lawrence as a bitter ex-cop trying to come to terms with a tragic past with the help of a new relationship which brings \"poem<\/a>some grace into his life; Max Myers\u2019 Slip, Tumble, and Slide<\/em> features Scott Wilson and Katherine Ross in a story about overcoming addiction through faith, music and love; an encore screening of John Stuart Wildman\u2019s critically acclaimed grindhouse genre film The Ladies of the House<\/em> starring Anime voice talent Brina Palencia and former adult film star Michelle \u2018Belladonna\u2019 Sinclair; and a special presentation of the restored Jonathan Demme Presents Made in Texas<\/em> short film compilation about the punk rock scene of the 70s and early 80s, originally screened in 1981.<\/p>\n

The series of panels offered are headed by a \u201cConversation with…Joey Lawrence\u201d where he will discuss his career including his experiences being a teen idol and his new faith-based film Saved by Grace<\/em>, and include additional compelling panel subjects subjects such as \u201cCasting Character Actors\u201d, \u201cProducing Films in Mississippi\u201d, \u201cCasting Child Actors\u201d, \u201cDissecting Hollywood\u2019s Diversity Problem\u201d, \u201cHow to Get Film Critics to review Your Film\u201d, and \"Forced<\/a>\u201cIndependent Black Film Collective\u201d.<\/p>\n

World premieres and star wattage dot the ambitious slate of short films screening at Oxford this year. Among the 21 world premieres are; Michaela O\u2019Brien\u2019s Anatomical Gifts<\/em>; Jeremy Jensen\u2019s Araignee<\/em>; George Gross\u2019 Booker Wright’s Mashup<\/em>; Damein Wash\u2019s Bottle of Sunshine<\/em>; G.B. Shannon\u2019s Broke Dick Dog<\/em>; Kimberly Burleigh\u2019s Cannot Predict Now<\/em>; Eileen Myers\u2019 The Favor<\/em>; Thad Lee\u2019s Fiddler’s Green<\/em>; Jordan Liebwitz\u2019s Hit & Run<\/em>; Sajad Abbas\u2019 The Iraqi Superman<\/em>; Tate Moore\u2019s Kudzu Kings 20th Anniversary<\/em>; Michael Jackson Chaney\u2019s Little Sticker<\/em>; Tim O’Grady\u2019s Mo’ Bout Joe<\/em>; James Martin\u2019s The New Orleans Sazerac<\/em>; Nancy Maria Balach and Katie McLaughlin\u2019s Ole Miss Rebel Blues<\/em>; Alice Walker\u2019s Once a Month<\/em>; Jason Rochelle\u2019s One Star Delta Night<\/em>; Calum Macdiarmid\u2019s Preacherman<\/em>; Gloria Chung\u2019s River Moon Blackbirds<\/em>; Roberta Munroe\u2019s The Sibling Code<\/em>; and Gloria Chung\u2019s Take the Bus on a Hot Summer Day<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Recognizable faces \"ladies<\/a>popping up among the short film selections include; Alex Karpovsky in Michael Tyburski\u2019s Actor Seeks Role<\/em>; Alvaro Ron\u2019s THE RED THUNDER features the trio of television stars Allie Grant (“Weeds<\/em>\u201d), Miles Heizer (\u201cParenthood<\/em>\u201d), and Karen Strassman (\u201cSilicon Valley<\/em>\u201d); Jeff Tan\u2019s Mother’s Day<\/em> stars Academy Award-winner Melissa Leo; and Ridley Scott and Michael Fassbender are producers of David Victori\u2019s Zero<\/em>.<\/p>\n
