(OXFORD, MISS.) TLV \u2013 Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at roughly 6 pm local poet and activist Louis Bourgeois<\/strong> was robbed at gunpoint while making a withdrawal from an ATM located at Regions<\/strong> on Jackson Avenue West<\/strong>.
\n<\/span>
\n\u201cThere was a white truck right in front of the ATM. This white was guy was standing on the driver side of the truck. I walked up to the ATM and I put the card in,\u201d said Bourgeois. \u201cThen all of the sudden I hear from behind me, \u2018Take out $500 now.\u2019\u201d
\n<\/span>
\nBourgeois said the suspect was roughly five feet behind him standing toward the back of the truck.
\n<\/span>
\n\u201cI kind of turned, not completely around but I turned my head to where I could see,\u201d said Bourgeois. \u201cThere was this black guy with a very large silver pistol. He had a hoodie and a bandana wrapped around most of his face. Really all I could see was the top half, from the nose up.\u201d
\n<\/span>
\nBourgeois cooperated with the armed robber\u2019s demands, wanting to leave the situation as quickly as possible.
\n<\/span>
\n\u201cI just put the money on the ground, jumped in my truck and hauled ass to the police station,\u201d said Bourgeois. \u201cI thought the white guy was involved in the robbery, but he was being held hostage by the [armed robber].\u201d
\n<\/span>
\nThe white male is a young Oxford resident who did not provide the armed robber enough funds. It is still unknown what the suspect\u2019s intentions were with the white male.
\n<\/span>
\nAs a long time resident of Oxford, Bourgeois was shocked that this could happen to someone.
\n<\/span>
\n\u201cIf I\u2019m in Jackson I wouldn\u2019t even think about going to the ATM [at night], but I\u2019m in Oxford and I\u2019ve been here for 19 years,\u201d said Bourgeois. \u201cI\u2019ve never had anything happen, nothing stolen.\u201d
\n<\/span>
\nBourgeois considers himself lucky.
\n<\/span>
\n\u201cWhen you have a gun pulled on you, it\u2019s pretty intense. My daughter is in the truck and I\u2019m thinking okay what\u2019s gonna stop him from blowing my head off,\u201d said Bourgeois. \u201cIt\u2019s really just disgusting actually.\u201d
