How long have you lived in Oxford?<\/b><\/span> I lived in Oxford for about 29 years until I moved to Athens, Ga. for graduate school. The first time I ever moved away from Oxford I was about to be 30 and suddenly missed the love and support that came from the town. I live now in the metro-Jackson area so I try and get back to Oxford as much as possible.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Artistic Style:<\/b><\/span> I\u2019m currently interested in integrating Hyperrealism with abstraction and elements of illustration.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Favorite Medium:<\/b><\/span> Oil paint is my absolute go-to.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Favorite Artistic Tool or Implement: <\/b><\/span>Lately, I\u2019ve been enjoying smearing paint on with a trowel and seeing where that takes me. But a paintbrush is usually my most utilized tool.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Art Education:<\/b><\/span> BFA in Studio Art from Ole Miss. MFA from The University of Georgia.\"dragonsbreath_small\"<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Where do you get your ideas & inspiration:<\/b><\/span> I love to mine childhood ephemera for ideas\u2014like old 80s Saturday morning cartoons, comic books, trapper keepers, and especially toys. I\u2019m very much interested in childhood make-believe.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Favorite project you\u2019ve completed:<\/b><\/span> My favorite project would have to be the artwork for my MFA Thesis. The work I was making was bigger and looser. Very different from my smaller, hyperreal work. I spent many sleepless nights covered head to toe in paint, running on paint fumes, and drinking copious amounts of sweet tea.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Can we see any of your art on display:<\/b><\/span> I have some paintings at Southside Gallery. And a painting currently up at The Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"hellhounds9-14-15\"<\/a>Favorite Artists:<\/b><\/span> There\u2019s too many to name, but these are my current favorites: Neo Rauch, Karel Thole, Moebius, Charlie Immer<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Favorite Bands:<\/b><\/span> Classixx, The War on Drugs, Cut Copy, Letherette, Nujabes<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Favorite Books\/Authors:<\/b><\/span> I\u2019m finishing up <\/span>Ready Player One<\/i><\/span> by Ernest Cline. Love it! It\u2019s an 80s pop culture indulgence about virtual reality and video games.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What do you love about Oxford, and what do you wish you could change?<\/b><\/span> I love that Oxford has always been a cultural mecca in the vast Mississippi desert. And I\u2019ll always be appreciative of the fact that Oxford loves the arts and supports its artists, musicians, and writers. What would I change? No more condos! \u00a0\"The<\/a><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
