{"id":28546,"date":"2015-11-06T11:45:22","date_gmt":"2015-11-06T16:45:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=28546"},"modified":"2015-11-10T12:10:55","modified_gmt":"2015-11-10T17:10:55","slug":"art-songs-of-the-american-south-jos-milton-tenor-and-melinda-armstead-piano-friday-november-6-730-pm-nutt-auditorium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/art-songs-of-the-american-south-jos-milton-tenor-and-melinda-armstead-piano-friday-november-6-730-pm-nutt-auditorium\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Art Songs of the American South&#8221;: Tenor Jos Milton and Pianist Melinda Armstead Friday, November 6 at 7:30 pm &#8211; at Nutt Auditorium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Jos Milton<\/strong> enjoys an active career in music as a professional singer and an educator. \u00a0His vibrant and eclectic schedule includes numerous engagements in the realms of concert, opera, and ensemble singing. \u00a0Recent credits include performances of <strong>Mendelssohn<\/strong>\u2019s <strong><em>Elijah <\/em><\/strong>and <strong>Finzi<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0<strong><em>Dies Natalis <\/em><\/strong>with the Germantown Symphony Orchestra, and <strong>Carlisle Floyd<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0<em><strong>Slow Dusk<\/strong>, <\/em><strong>Puccini<\/strong>\u2019s <em><strong>La Boh\u00e8me<\/strong>,<\/em> <strong>Leoncavallo<\/strong>\u2019s <em><strong>Pagliacci<\/strong>, <\/em>and <strong>Poulenc<\/strong>\u2019s <em><strong>Dialogues of the Carmelites<\/strong>, <\/em>all with the Louisiana Opera. He has appeared as tenor soloist on numerous occasions with the Texas Early Music Project, Texas Choral Consort, La Follia Baroque Ensemble, Austin Civic Chorus, and various other organizations. \u00a0Jos also performs regularly as a professional chorister, with the Carmel Bach Festival Chorale, and with Conspirare Company of Voices, the Grammy\u00ae award-winning vocal ensemble based in Austin, Texas. \u00a0He has given master classes in voice at Trinity University, Northeastern State University (OK), Harding University, and at the Mississippi Conference of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). He has presented his research in conferences held by the College Music Society and the National Opera Association.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Jos holds a Bachelor of Music from Trinity University, a Master of Music from the University of Massachusetts, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. \u00a0Dr. Milton serves as assistant professor of music at the University of Mississippi, where he teaches studio voice as well as various courses in vocal literature.\u00a0\u00a0 He resides in Oxford with his wife and son.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Art Songs of the American South is a collection of contemporary works by composers from The South.
