University, Miss. (TLV) – Following him team\u2019s first setback on the year – a 38-10 road loss to Florida<\/strong> – Ole Miss<\/strong> coach Hugh Freeze<\/strong> gave little in the way of excuses at his Monday morning press conference, saying that his team must \u201cown the loss\u201d and get back to work. \"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to own it when we lose in difficult places to play against really good teams,\u201d said Freeze. \u201cThe expectations of this program are to compete in those games.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He added that the environment at The Swamp<\/strong> gave Florida \u201ca distinct advantage with the get-off that they had,\u201d and that his team struggled from the outset to find any chinks in the Gators<\/strong>‘ armor.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c[We] were able early on in Alabama to have a little success,\u201d Freeze explained. \u201cWhat we needed to go on the other night was\u2026 [t]o go back and forth a little bit, to settle that place down.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He even went so far as to say that the crowd in Gainesville<\/strong> made it difficult to call the correct checks on defense, particularly for Tee Shepard<\/strong>, a regular starter who sat for much of the Florida game due to communication issues.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of teams have been doing that to us,\u201d said Freeze. \u201cWhen they do that, we have to make a check, and that is very difficult for [Tee].\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Freeze noted that \u201cit\u2019s much easier [for Shepard] to play at home than on the road,\u201d but that he and his staff are \u201clooking into everything that [they] can\u201d to get Shepard \u201con the same page as everyone.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He remained confident that his Ole Miss team \u201c[has] the ability to be one of the best teams in the country,\u201d but said that he \u201ccan\u2019t control injuries\u201d and Laremy Tunsil<\/strong>\u2019s lingering ineligibility.\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

The Rebels have been hit early and often by the injury bug in 2015, as several key veterans (including Tony Conner<\/strong>, Isaac Gross<\/strong>, and Justin Bell<\/strong>, among others) have already missed playing time.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe can\u2019t operate like the rest of the world and put our hands in the air,\u201d he said. \u201c[Y]ou have to continue to build your program to where you can be elite when those things happen.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

As for the possibility of Tunsil riding the bench for the entire season, Freeze said that he \u201cdoesn\u2019t let [his] mind go there,\u201d and that he \u201cwould think he is going to be back with us at some time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI do think [finality] is coming,\u201d he said, \u201chopefully this week.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Rebels<\/strong> fell to #14 in the AP Poll, while Florida rose to #11. It was also announced Monday morning that Ole Miss will kick off at Memphis<\/strong> at 11 AM on October 17, and that the game will be televised by ABC.<\/span><\/p>\n
