Coach Hugh Freeze<\/strong> seems pleased with his Rebels<\/strong>\u2019 performance through two games, and had high praise for his offense in\u00a0Monday<\/span><\/span> morning\u2019s press conference.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cFinally, we\u2019re who I\u2019d like us to be,\u201d said Freeze of the offense, which ranks first in the nation overall after posting the highest-ever point total in back-to-back games in SEC history.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Much of this success can be attributed to transfer QB Chad Kelly<\/strong>, who was near-perfect in Saturday\u2019s<\/span><\/span> win vs. Fresno State<\/strong>. He finished with an 80% completion rate and accounted for five total touchdowns, leading scoring drives each time he entered the game.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cChad studies more film than I do,\u201d said Freeze. \u201cI really think he\u2019s trying to rewrite his story in a really good way.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

However, Freeze admits that there is room for improvement, particularly on the defensive side of the ball, before next week\u2019s showdown with Alabama<\/strong>. He cited the need to \u201celiminate explosive plays because we\u2019re not lined up properly\u201d as his main concern going into practice this week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Regarding Alabama\u2019s offense, Freeze said that the OL was \u201cas good as I\u2019ve seen,\u201d and that he \u201ccan\u2019t really tell\u201d how his team will match up against a conference opponent – one widely expected to win the SEC championship by season\u2019s end, no less.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think we have a confident football team right now that believes [it] can win. I also know that you can lose these games, because you\u2019re playing a good team.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c[That\u2019s] why you want to coach in this league.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Freeze was not able to give any updates regarding the eligibility of All-American LT Laremy Tunsil<\/strong>, who is sitting out as a precautionary measure during the NCAA\u2019s investigation. Last week, Freeze and AD Ross Bjork<\/strong> released a joint statement assuring that the university was \u201caggressively seeking a resolution\u201d to the matter, which \u201cis not related to any current items involving our football staff.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Offensive lineman Robert Conyers<\/strong> will be able to play after sustaining a minor injury against Fresno State last week, Freeze confirmed. He also confirmed, after reaching out to the SEC offices Monday<\/span><\/span> morning, that the targeting call on CB Tee Shepard<\/strong> will be upheld, meaning that he will not be able to play at Alabama until the second half.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At any rate, Ole Miss currently ranks #1 in ESPN\u2019s FPI index poll, which claims to be \u201ca measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Freeze was less than impressed with this, however, saying that he \u201cdoesn\u2019t even know what that is, but it sounds good.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know that we\u2019re worthy of that right now,\u201d said Freeze. \u201cIt\u2019s year four going into game three, and for us to be in those discussions I think speaks volumes of where our program has come in a short time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
