FOOTBALL PRESS CONFERENCE RECAP: WEEK 2<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Coach Hugh Freeze<\/strong>\u2019s press conference Monday morning was somewhat defined by lingering uncertainty. The Rebels<\/strong>\u2019 head coach declined yet again to name a starter at quarterback outright, and denies any knowledge of Laremy Tunsil<\/strong>\u2019s status regarding the ongoing NCAA investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI know everybody\u2019s surprised, but really, the way these things go for me, is I\u2019m just not included in a lot of the behind-the-scenes things that are going on,\u201d said Freeze. He reiterated that Tunsil\u2019s availability is dictated by the university, and that the program is being \u201cfully compliant\u201d with the NCAA\u2019s investigation of alleged violations.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Tunsil\u2019s absence, Freeze said that Rod Taylor<\/strong> could take snaps at LT this week. In addition to continued shakeups along the offensive line, Freeze said that he is still evaluating the kick returner position. Linebacker CJ Johnson<\/strong> will return to action from a one-game suspension this week.<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked about the quarterback race, Freeze again said that he \u201clike[s] all three right now,\u201d but that Chad Kelly<\/strong> will draw the start in week two. He said that Kelly was \u201cmore comfortable than I anticipated him being,\u201d last week, but that the staff will \u201cget all three ready and see how the game goes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\"2014-AfterAlabama\"<\/a>Coming off a throttling of UT-Martin<\/strong> on Saturday, the Rebs get another non-conference foe in Fresno State<\/strong> at home before the looming SEC opener at Alabama<\/strong>. Freeze noted that last week\u2019s crowd was \u201cphenomenal,\u201d and that \u201cthe energy that was there for a morning game was better than probably any I\u2019ve experienced here.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Women\u2019s Soccer coach Matthew Mott<\/strong> was on hand Monday morning to talk about his team\u2019s 4-0-2 start. After freshman CeCe Kizer<\/strong> scored in overtime to lead the Rebels to a 1-0 victory over Little Rock<\/strong> this weekend, Mott had a chance to appraise his young star forward.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think she\u2019s in the right place at the right time. IF you watch her movements, she [finds] herself away from defenders so she\u2019s open, and then when she\u2019s getting the chances, she\u2019s putting them on frame. She\u2019s been really clutch so far.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Rebels return to action this weekend, opening conference play at home against Kentucky<\/strong> before hosting Louisville<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also in attendance was Women\u2019s Volleyball coach Steven McRoberts<\/strong>, fresh off his team\u2019s strong 3-0 showing at the Hilton Garden Inn Cary Classic in Raleigh, North Carolina. McRoberts said that his young team was able to \u201cright the ship\u201d somewhat in what has been a \u201croller coaster\u201d of a season so far. Still, the team is 7-1.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got just two seniors on the floor and three or four new players in the mix,\u201d McRoberts explained. \u201ca lot more depth this year.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Ole Miss hosts the Rebel Classic<\/strong> Sept. 10-12, featuring matchups against Belmont<\/strong>, Buffalo<\/strong>, and a 7-0 Southern Miss<\/strong> team that McRoberts says \u201ccould loom big for us, as we are looking to get an NCAA tournament bid later on.\u201d \"The<\/a>
